Taipan New Taipan Veteran 2 Standard, .25

As I've posted on another thread, the new Taipan arrived yesterday, this morning before Church I mounted a cheap scope as I wait for my Immersive to arrive. I used one of the wood cradles I make to support the rifle. Both the gun and the cradle worked great!

I'll do a more exact scope mount and sight in with pictures and groups when the Immersive arrives.

Mine will be a squirrel hunter (woodland to eat, not petting). My shot distances will be 15-40 yards max due to visibility in hickory trees. I have zero experience with slugs in an air rifle, so for now I'll concentrate on pellets -- JSB and Hades. I'm experiencing with 25 and 33 grains for now.

I would like switch out the big ole moderator on the end of the barrel. I'd rather have something about half as long and close to the same diameter as the shrouded barrel. Suggestions welcome!

Well the smallest diameter moderators I know are the zero DB and possibly a huma. The problem is that 25 Cal most of the moderators are pretty robust. My 25 eagle eagle vision and my 30 Cal as well

Oh, I'm going to make a modified design of the cradle. I've sold about 35 of these for rimfire users (RimfireCentral forum), but only one to an air rifle enthusiast and oddly enough one to a crossbow user. The design works for all three but I can see:

A. The forend supports needs to involve a leather padded insert to accept larger diameter air supplies (bottles).
B. The grip support may need to be a bit lower so the overall rifle sits lower (center of gravity) in the cradle.

I have made some with adjustable round feet to raise and lower either the back or the front in case someone wanted to use them as a shooting cradle. I get a kick out of wood working.

I'll be prototyping one specifically for this Taipan

It’s not so simple. The “big ole thing” is a combined moderator and reflex shroud with a shoulder at the rear to tension against the carbon tube (which is not an active shroud). It attaches to the barrel via a M15x1.25 thread.

Maybe it'll grow on me. I remember using Huggets on my other air rifles. They Steyr even needed an adaptor, but that other stuff is new to me. No big deal.
donny makes fantastic mods has some new models out huma mod 40 is very good

Freaking beautiful Vet 2 tube with 700mm !

She “Czecks” all the right boxes 👍🏻

I just weighted the set-up. It is 10.2 pounds with that relatively heavy Riton 4x scope. The Immersive arrives today. I'm looking to put some type of studs in the stock to hold it when it hunting. The rear will have to be in the side of the butt stock, but I'll put the front stud under the forearm. There isn't a lot of information out there about slinging Taipans.

More pellets arrived today. Here's a picture of the Taipan V 2 Long .25 with the 1-x40 Immersive. Sorry about the clutter. You can see I have a very flat workbench

I really like the clarity and reticle of the Immersive. I have to have a rock steady rest though to prevent neutrons in my cells from moving the crosshairs!

The 3rd picture shows results of three pellet types at 25 yards in a pine board. In all instances I was aiming at where the marker line intersects with the board and right side of the tape. Number of shots is 7-10 per pellet:
Top - JSB 25
Middle - Hades 26
Bottom - JSB 33

I adjusted my windage 3 clicks right after shooting. Any of these pellets will be very good for squirrel hunting purposes. I think I'll hunt with the Hades though due to the "hollow point" type front.

Oh, I whined (worried) a bunch as I was contemplating the Veteran. Mainly the stock. Yes, it is a bit bulky up front, but that's too far for my reach anyway. I support the rifle just in front of the trigger guard which is a bit more streamlined. I''m still planning to try my hand at making one from scratch, but I'm not boogering this one up. I'd also like to get a more streamlined and shorter moderator.
