Snowpeak SPA P35X = Remington Spirit X

AAR on Air has a youtube out on the Remington Spirit X. In it he acknowledges that it is the Snowpeak P35X with Remington labeling. He did not seem to get a particularly accurate <12 fpe 177 but his comments in general are favorable. I've found a range of accuracy in my 3 P35s from good to excellent. His seems more at the good end. But I wonder if the new 65cc plenum is not overly large for a sub 12 177. The stock P35 plenum is under 15 ccs and seems to work fine on my 22 and 177. My 25 got a lot of velocity increase from a 35cc power plenum upgrade and I bet the Spirit X in 25 would be a powerhouse, at least for a P35. The hammer spring limits you to around 150 bar on the regulator but the P35X/Spirit X also has a longer barrel (over 500 mm versus 450 in the P35). I'm guessing 55-60 fpe in the 25 caliber. Should be capable of at least 35 fpe in the 22, possibly 40 fpe. My barrels are all choked and seem to shoot best with pellets but I have not extensively tested slugs. The P35X and Spirit X also come with a pretty nice looking wood stock. Weight it up over 6 lbs but still not terribly heavy for a PCP. Price doesn't seem to be a lot more than the P35.

Having a Remington option in this gun should also mean greater availability here in the U. S. where they are even better known than Stoeger.

Krale has them for sell. I was going to get a bullshark in 22 but then I saw the P35x. I plan on getting one in 22 and adapt an fx slug liner to it. Hope they get a synthetic stock.

I would shoot the SPA barrel first. You might get lucky and get one like my P35 has. I doubt a FX liner will shoot any better.

I went to the Krale website just now and they indeed have them in stock but only from what I saw with wood stocks. Maybe you could swap somebody with a P35 or bullshark stock if you want plastic. They have it in 25 too. That is the caliber I think is the most interesting since I think the added plenum and longer barrel are needed in the 25. I doubt the plastic stock will save you much if any weight, however. My home made wood stocks weigh about the same as my P35 plastic stocks.

Please keep us informed, Boots. Are they all 12 fpe limit models? If you have not seen it (or done it) already I've posted pictures of the spring which controls the first stage trigger pressure. I assume the P35X will have the same design and, if so, it is simple to drop the trigger to about a pound by relaxing the little spring on the first stage. Just turn a grub screw on the collar on one end of the spring to slide it and decompress the spring. You have to take the action out of the stock to get to the adjustment. That should just be two screws on the bottom of the gun. one right in front of the trigger guard and one back where the action is.

I've never handled a P35X but my P35s do not have a strong enough hammer spring to handle more than a small regulator increase. They are limited to under 150 bar and normally come set about there. The P35X has a much longer barrel (P35 is 450mm) and about 6Xs as large a plenum. I know my P35 with a plenum about half as large (aftermarket) will just about make 50 fpe. I don't know so I'm in no position to say these numbers are incorrect but I would find 45 for a 22 and 55 for a 25 more realistic. But I don't even know what my aftermarket plenum would do on my 22. I think a stock P35-22 is going to top out at about 35 fpe. But maybe those numbers are completely valid. I'm just struggling with whether a much larger plenum and another 80mm of barrel is going to get you 20 more fpe. Maybe it does. 10 fpe more than a P35 seems very reasonable to expect.

Hey JimD,
The reason I asked is because I received one from Huma a few days ago.
Mine is .22 and came out of the box with the hammer spring 1/4 turn from maxed out.. and was shooting at 37ish fpe with 23 grain slugs. The reg appears to be about 140bar from the factory, so I may take it up a bit and see how that affects it.
While that’s plenty of energy it’s just not what I was expecting from this rifle.

Also to your point about the hammer spring in the p35s not being very strong, the one in this X model has to be the stiffest spring I’ve ever seen in a factory gun and I’ve had a been in a few through the past decade plus.
I do have a p15 but I’ve never had the spring out of it to say if the two differ in strength or not.. may have to check it out one day.
