Kirk. You won’t regret it. You’re going to love it. I ordered a HW77 .20 cal. about 2 months ago as well. Can’t wait. So looking forward for that .20 cal.
That 77 BayouSelf has, is to die for.
Here’s my 77’sView attachment 495116Top is Venum stock and tuned .22 cal.
Top lam .177 cal.
3+4 are .22 cal.
Bottom .25 cal. ( a favorite )
I’d be curious if ours come at the same time.
Nice buy, good luck. Crow
Holy moly! Great looking rifles!

Yeah Ron,
Not sure why, but my past two HW77's in .177 caliber shot 7.87's JSB's at 920 fps or 14.75 fpe with ARH Hornet springs.
My HW95 in .177 caliber shot (most accurate pellet) 7.9 CP at 880 fps or 13.6 fpe with the same spring. The HW77's didn't like CP pellets.

This was the only data I had when comparing ...................
That's about right for both guns the CPLs make less power than the JSBs in those platforms. In 177 a full power 95 should push 15 with JSB 7.87 or 8.44s and a little less with stiffer pellets like CPLs or FTTs. All the 97s and 77s I've done have roughly made the same power as the 95 guns. Some guns will produce more or less than the norms with the same parts due to tube condition and concentricity. 97s and 77s have less problems with sealing because of their machined sliding comp tube. Traditional break barrel comp tubes are subject to a number of problems that cause less than optimal sealing. I suspect that's why I've never noticed the shorter stroked 97/77 making less power than the 95 family guns. They all can use the same spring but the 77/97 use a different rear guide due to their larger 30mm receiver.

At least Tom Gaylord states that the 77 and 97 don't make the same power - the 77 is more powerful, unlike most people think. He should know. But people who have tested both of them should know, also.
They both currently have 26x81 mm bore and stroke. Earlier models were the same stroke with 25mm bore. If one makes more power than the other its either because they're different bores, different components or assembled differently. They come with all the same components from the breech back.

Both rifles come in full length and Karbine models. Neither model makes enough power to for the barrel length to affect it.

I love Tom Gaylord. The man is a huge wealth of airgun knowledge. His knowledge extends over many decades of airguns from all across the world. I am only a plebe in this stuff but all I know is Weihrauchs. If I'm wrong i apologize but I've never noticed a difference in power between the 77s and 97s I've worked on. Between that and all the specs being identical, I don't see how one could make less power than the other. I think the world of Mr. Gaylord but I think he might have this one wrong. Unless, he was comparing them with different calibers. Which ever one had the larger caliber would naturally make more power.

I agree they should be the same power, as identical power plants. However with my 77K with the factory spring I could get 937 with a 7.9 premier. My 97K has never made that kind of power with several different springs and spacing combinations. About 880 is all I ever got out of the 97K, eventually I tuned them both to shoot at 835 with a 8.4 pellet, then sold the 77K later.
I think it is about how well the particular gun seals, as in breech seal lock up. I had oring piston seals in both my 97K and 77K and they sealed well in the compression tube. However who's to say one didn't seal as well as the other, along with the breech seal lock up with the under lever guns. Anyway, that's what I think, some seal better than others, comparing the same power plants.

The other big power variable with Weihrauch power is the barrels. Of which there's no rhyme or reason which guns get barrels that make a little more or less power. Tight chokes at either end will eat power as will a mid section that is too loose. I had one 20 caliber barrel made a full one fpe less on my R1 than another. Both barrels were sourced brand new.

Some guns seal better than others and some have better barrels than others. Most guns fall into a normal range but occasionally you'll get one that stands out. Sometimes its a dud, sometimes it's a superstar. My wife's 177 Hw30 makes almost 9 fpe while shooting smoothly and accurately. I've tuned bunches of 30s and I've never seen a 177 30 before or since that will do that. It's just a lucky freak. And yes, that's without dieseling.

I bought my first .20 in June, a ‘97 with walnut stock, and I’m a believer. It’s shooting JSB 13.73 around 720fps with a John in PA tune. I’ve owned maybe 6 or 8 .177 spring guns from Weihrauch and Air Arms and have never been able to shoot groups like I have with this one. I absolutely love it.
