New one… Last one

New one 😁 Last one ☹️

For decades I had one airgun for plinking, pesting and hunting, a Feinwerkbau 124. About 15 years ago the 124 needed a new piston seal. While searching for a replacement part I bumped into the world of modern airguns and got seriously infected with the bug.

Now, 25 + airguns later, I have a couple of airguns for every discipline that I’m interested in. I’ve called “last gun” several times and managed to keep from purchasing anymore until I saw what I think is going to be the ultimate squirrel stalking gun.

My "last airgun" is a .22 caliber/600 mm FX DRS Classic fitted with a MTC Copperhead 4-16x44 compact scope. I’m pleased and impressed with it; at 6 pounds, 10 ounces, I love the light weight. I'm getting about 35 shots on a 230 bar fill.

We’re still in the break-in/honeymoon period; she’s shooting decent groups and doesn’t seem pellet picky at all. JSB 18g (925fps); 15.89g (960fps); 14.3g (990fps) are stable out to 30 yards with the factory tune.

I’m pleasantly surprised on how nice the synthetic stock is. The balance and ergonomics are good for me so the DRS points well. The cheek comb seems to be designed for 50 mm scopes and high rings. I may try a set of medium rings to lower the scope a bit.

Future plans include detuning the DRS from 33 ish fpe down to 15-20 fpe (depending on what it likes) and making a snap-shooting “skeleton” style stock (kinda like the straight grip and weight forward balance on a shotgun) out of birch plywood.

Now to get ready for the squirrel season! 🙂

Cheers!
