RAW Rapid R.A.W. HM1000X Inconsistent Today - Indoors

I went to an indoor range for the first time today - wanted to shoot with no wind. Set up at 50 yards with N50 practice targets. After sighting in I was hitting 10's and X's for most of the first 17 shots. The next two shots were almost outside the box and number 20 scored a 5. From that point on it was literally hit or miss with another 5, then 9, a wide 5, then 10, 10. Why in the world would this happen? Speeds were consistently in the 865~870 fps range. I'm shooting a .25 caliber R.A.W HM1000X (Rapid Air Worx) in an MPA frame. By the way, pellets were FX 34 grain weighed and sorted and also AEA Center Punch 33.9 grain.

Two more things - I believe R.A.W. sends these out at about 910~920 fps which seems too fast for Diabolo pellets so I tuned it back to 870-ish fps. Any thoughts on that as well? Also, adjusting the hammer spring has almost no affect on pellet speed. I know it's used for minor adjustments but fully out to fully in barely makes a 1-2 fps difference - bad hammer spring?

TIA for comments.

First guess, dirty barrel.
Good guess, but I did a minor clean fewer than 200 pellets ago. When I say minor, using PatchWorm I pulled a wet patch (Ballistol) with a cleaning plug through about 3 times, followed by 3 dry patch/plugs. Might need to do a full cleaning just to eliminate that as a factor. Thanks for your reply.

Hi Mike
I think this will be a response that gets some flack, but this is what i have recently been observing.
I decided to start using Balistol for cleaning...and is does a very good job.
I soak a bunch of patches in a jar and use 1 wet with a dry when i cleaned the barrel ..a tight pull.
I was seeing the same as you..where a stable speed has gone erradict, so i pulled several patches through that were soaked in balistol.
The patches were coming out clean ..no silver sparkles(lead), no graphite. clean white patch
I switched to a patch that i used before..soaked in ultra-bore cleaner and suprisingly, i saw lead ..pulled several more, and still saw a bit of sparkle
maybe there is something in the lead with the AEA's and JTS, that doesn't loosen up when using balistol?? ..just a guess
i was suprised to see the lead. Could it be the Balistol?
The rifle is back to normal now, but i did another polish and waxing.

Thanks - good suggestion. I've asked Rapid Air Worx about it - no reply as yet..
Call Martin early in the AM....
Do you have a way to get a look down that barrel.? . I also don't trust moderators for bench rigs, at least caliber specific ones. I use Lucas CLR when I pull RAW barrels for a good clean. You can see pretty well into lead in area & choke end near muzzle with basic magnification.

Do you mean the Otis 085? Seems not easy to find - not on Amazon anyway. I’ll do some online shopping and give it a try.

Didn’t buy it direct from Martin - not sure if he’d be willing to get involved.

By the way, I'm using an STO FALX which is multi-caliber up to .30 caliber so I'm pretty sure I'm safe with it on my .25 caliber.

You are correct that Ballistol doesn't remove extensive lead buildup from barrel bores, so they may come out clean but the barrel may not be clean. I use Shooters Choice Lead Remover on a wet patch pull through to remove lead.

I agree with most replies that your barrel is most likely dirty.

Like said above, best thing to do is call Martin! If your HS adjustments aren't working something is amiss...maybe a broken HS.....but, I'm sure Martin will find out! I purchased my RAW from Ken Hick's of SPAW but I have Martin service it, have had mine since 2019.
Will definitely call Martin - thanks.
