Beeman .177 Beeman Chief

Bought one as a project gun. Was not expecting it to sound like a .22 magnum carbine. My god immediate fear my neighbors would call the police. Do any of you in AGN land own a chief, and have you any experience with the available Lane regulator? Is it worth the $85 to regulate? I'm waiting on the buckrail Moderator system to arrive Saturday before I bother clocking the shot curve. Anyone know which pellets it might enjoy?. I've got 10.3jts and baracuda match as well as CPHP 8's .

Wow . Are you shooting downtown or in a apartment complex ? What's his business of it to start ?
My home is in a typical US middle class neighborhood in the suburbs of Atlanta. You're not allowed to fire powder burners in such areas and gun ignorant Karen's tend to assume any "pop" (including fire crackers and some tools) are gunshots and call the police. It's not that serious. No issue with any of my other airguns. This, the smallest caliber I own surprised me wit how loud it was. Not that serious.

Might be your area:

Sec. 26-2. - Discharging firearms, air guns, etc.

(a)

It shall be unlawful for any person in the City to discharge any gun, pistol, or other firearm within 50 yards of any street, alley or building, or at any point upon the land of another person without the expressed consent of the owner or occupant thereof; or to discharge, at any time, any air gun, BB gun or toy gun which projects lead or any other missile.

Naturally with POOR wording which can be interpreted many ways depending on who is doing the reading. Have 50 yards+ from any .... ?

Nope. Isnt. Airguns are perfectly permissible. I've checked and double checked and the cops just finally got the point where they told her "it doesn't matter what you like or don't like, the fact is he is acting within the law, if he discharged a weapon at you or your direction. Or property, then call, until then. Tough". MIND you this is a single 63 yr old woman, not widowed just terminally alone and angry, who walks a vicious pitbull, who's had multiple Incidents with her dog attacking other dogs and cats, some fatally. But pulling the old take off and pretend there is no dog maneuver.

Personally I would not spend the money to regulate it.

I have a Beeman Raider .177 which may be similar enough internally.
I have added 2 o'rings between the valve face and the hammer, this is called the BStaley mod.
I am now getting a much flatter shot string over a large PSI range.
It was a lot of trial and error until I got the setup to work.

I took it inside and wore ear pro. It's not breaking the sound barrier and from 2000-1250~ with baracuda match 10.65s I'm getting 878 at the high end down to 830 so I can work with this. Originally bought it because I had so much fun with the notos I figured another cheap gun turned into a respectable shooter would be great. Bit off more than I can chew. But for backyard chipmunking, mousing and squirreling...maybe the occasional sparrow, dove or young corvid.within 35 yards this will do just fine. Thanks for the input on the lane reg.
