Tuxing 032 Leaking....fixed

I've been hearing what sounded like an air leak for quite a while but couldn't find it, well today it got bad, STILL couldn't find it, I thought maybe a fitting, sprayed them all and, nope not there, perhaps a bad piston wring, nope, no air out of the breather, then perhaps the pressure gauge, I had a spare so replaced it, hooked up my tank opened and was checking the gauge and just happened to see the back side of the right filter, there was the o-ring poking out. Now, those that haven't had the joy of working on them, they, at least mine, are HARD to get apart, I removed the top connector tube then beat the poop out of the top cap with a Ford wrench on back wards and a heavy mallet, end finally came loose, got it off and the 0-ring was definitely messed up, luckily in the parts kit were 4 spares. I see how it got messed up, they put the 0-ring in the top of the tube then threaded in the end piece, shredding it. I greased it up, and the threads, put the 0-ring on the cap and screwed in the cap as as it was making contact kept working it in slowly in - out, in-out to make sure the 0-ring would seat. The foam filter had moisture on the top but was only discolored half way, replaced it anyway, had a spare for that too. Tried to take the Left one apart and that wasn't happening so I gave up. Got it reassembled, pressurized it and no leaking. Fired up the compressor and refilled my tank, YEA!!!!! went faster with no leaks. I've got about 25 hrs on this unit

you need a spanner wrench for the top and a good nylon strap wrench for the tube.. I use a 1/2" drive breaker bar on my strap wrench and I think the spanner wrench has two sizes for the ratchet 3/8 & 1/2" might make it a lot easier for you to service it..

Those little green O-rings are horrible. I've gone through the ones I have on hand. Any clue as if there is a better solution? durometer, material, size???

Mine for this were the black ones, it felt like N70. In this case it was a bad install job, the threads of the cap sheared off some of the inside of the 0-ring. The other one is going to let go at some point, the cap isn't down all of the way.

I have zero idea where the green ones go, I've been lucky so far.
 
you need a spanner wrench for the top and a good nylon strap wrench for the tube.. I use a 1/2" drive breaker bar on my strap wrench and I think the spanner wrench has two sizes for the ratchet 3/8 & 1/2" might make it a lot easier for you to service it..

It'll also take some 3' cheaters, that thing is on TIGHT, or cross threaded. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, I may just replace the entire filter unit if need be , instead of fighting it.

Just serviced my filters for the first time today. Took a 2ft long crescent wrench, a 2ft pipe wrench, my whole body and both hands. Completely, absurdly, unnecessarily tight. And don't get me started on the rusty steel compression fittings.

Gonna order some spare orings. Mine were 2.5mm cross section, maybe 40 or 41mm OD. The groove they go into is 40.8mm

Thanks I thought I was getting weaker or going the wrong way. I'm just going to take them out and use brute force to open them, I'll have a buddy hold the pipe wrench in place on concrete as I use a spanner and a BFH...BIG F'n Hammer. The one I did get the top off, the threads looked awesome as you can see in the picture, they have some bid dudes in China apparently.

I replaced the stainless compression fittings on the top of the towers with male fosters. I took the check valve out the one on the first tower so when you bleed the moisture you don’t lose pressure on the second. Works great and I don’t have to fight with those fittings every time.View attachment 505809View attachment 505809
I'd think you would want to lose pressure when you bleed.. for easy starting the compressor to also service..

You do lose pressure south of the check valve in tower two. You can bleed it all the way down if you want to and you’ll still have pressure in the second tower. I run an additional full size filter before my tank so I don’t have to pressure up the whole thing again. You can restart the compressor under no load and it doesn’t take all that time to get the whole system back to where you left off. If you feel you need to burp the second tower, you can always do that.
