FX Maverick Barrel Retention Screws

IMG_2452.jpeg

When I change the barrel on my Maverick, should I only tighten screw “A”? Seems like only “A” is tightened in the videos and posts I’ve seen, but screw “B” was very tight to the barrel from the factory on my .30 Sniper and I had to loosen it to get the barrel out.

Like Headshots said, only set screw A is supposed to hold the barrel in place. Set screw B should not be touching the barrel. The only reason set screw B exists is that FX drills a hole there to create the transfer port hole that is under the barrel. After the transfer port hole is created, FX taps the hole above the barrel and plugs it with set screw B. Set screw B should be an air tight seal, otherwise you will lose some air on each shot. I don't know what kind of thread lock goop FX used to seal set screw B. I think one of the Maverick disassembly or reassembly youtube videos specifies the kind of thread lock to use for an air tight seal. I'll look and post it here if I find it.

Thanks everyone. Mine also had sealant on the threads, I guess someone just tightened it down by mistake at the factory. I’ll get some pipe dope.
Lot's of people got Mavericks with this problem. Want to watch Ernest Rowe tighten set screw B because he, apparently, didn't know what the heck it was for?
I'm not meaning to pick on Ernest -- just showing that set screw B sure looks like it's for holding the barrel in place.

At 22:43 into this youtube vid, he decides to tighten it down

B doesn't hold the barrel BUT it does provide a tiny bit of sealing to the port under it. Does it matter, nary a clue, haven't actually tested it, I just apply a TINY bit of tension, I also use a few wraps of teflon tape to keep the precious air in where it belongs. Even A doesn't need to be tight, just enough to keep the barrel in place.
