Is airgun interest going away?

I don’t view the ebb and flow of using my PCPs as losing interest. It is but a hobby and other facets of life take over for many of us. Some PCPs are quite pricey with starting points of 1.5K and up… After some acquire a few solid PCPs their needs are met and they stop buying? We understand that the PCP is but one part of the equation… HPA cpmpressors, SCBAs, fill stations, scopes, ammo, etc. Also need be purchased. I am lucky to own an Atomic, Ghost and Pathfinder, which means I am set for all “my” shooting scenarios… So a person like myself is no longer looking to buy PCPs, but am interested in purchasing another HPA compressor…

Ding Ding Ding! We got a winner. The economy is slowing, inflation skyrocketing. It’s an election year. Plenty of reasons not to blow money on hobbies.
I agree. Uncertainty makes everyone nervous about spending too much money. Hopefully interest will pick up after the election!

I miss air rifle specialist from Elmira New York.. he had a lot of good early PCP guns.. but that was 30 years ago and I'm sure he is passed on..
I don't know if any actual air gun shop that you can actually walk into and actually touch something before you buy it..
I did find out from another member there is a air gun club in Ashland Oregon that holds competitions and apparently they have a store or shop.. maybe someday I'll get a chance to go see..

I know around here airguns are still seen as toys and compared to airsoft. I've often wondered how an indoor airgun range would do around here. Like John at New England airguns offers. But $$$$$ talks and ... Being broke I do a lot of walking.

I was thinking the same thing about an indoor airgun range here.

I started selling PCPs almost 2 years ago and I notice this year has been quite the decline in interest. My existing customers love them but I am really struggling to get new people interested more than ever. I am competetive with online pricing at a local level and even fix peoples gun for free and educate them on how to use and work on everything but interest has just about ground to a halt. I don't get it. I love PCP's.
It's an election year, most are holding on to their money.

I got to visit AOA a few years ago on a family vacation. The girls did some spa stuff and I took the boys there. Was very cool to see all the airguns there and got to hold a bunch of different kinds. Didn't buy anything but was a cool experience. Wish there was something local. Would probably do great in our area.

I reside behind enemy lines, you need approval from the overlords to get ammo and it's expensive, and if you do something stupid and buy too much...well who knows what happens. I don't need another PCP, mine all work just fine and I've actually improved my shooting because of them.
since I moved from behind your enemy lines, what is the status there for ammo.. back when I lived there was of banning lead ammo.. just wondering if you have to buy those green pellets,I guess they are tin or something not lead?
just curious.. I pretty much always read your posts when I stumbled across them.. like what I read..
thank you

I got into airguns when the pandemic was raging. I think a lot of guys did. And I think our reasoning was similar. I think that created a boom.

I spent four or five years with different rifles on a learning curve and now the curve has flattened out so has the purchasing. I have what I want and I just don't need anymore. It's the natural arc of any boom.

I don't buy into the "it's the economy" talk. I live in the poorest place in the country and things have never been better. Plenty of work. Unemployment is the lowest in decades. Lots of oilfield and wind generation jobs. Road and bridge projects. Aerospace jobs. Solar manufacturing and installation is huge. Help wanted signs everywhere.

A CD at the bank is paying 5%. Everyone is driving big diesel pickups and towing expensive rv's. They are shooting new rifles and building new houses. They have spending money and that is what drives prices up.

So a fellow shooting a $2000 toy griping about the economy is not making much sense to me. Same with the guy driving a new $70k pickup telling me the economy is ruined. It just dosent fit.

The airgun industry boomed for a few years. After every boom there is a bust. It's just the natural cycle. Anyone that wants an air rifle can buy one. There are simply fewer and fewer guys that want one. A big part of that is the fact they already have 7 or 8 and simply don't need anymore.

I can only speak from my experience but I can assume many others share the same experience. And that is how I see things from my limited perspective as an airgunner.
Basically the same in my world

Naw we can sling lead, just can't use it in shotguns apparently. Now to buy ammo you need your I.D and permit. I have zero idea what happens if you try to buy a case. Of course it's illegal to go to AZ or NV or OR and buy some and bring it in, big brother Nuisance has to make sure you don't have too much. I miss ordering on line and watching the UPS guy struggling with cases.

Earlier this year there was a few days you could buy online, I took advantage of that big time 😁
