Paypal FF & Zelle

I responded to an ad recently via PM.i asked if the person was ok with standard paypal (vs family friends ) if I paid the fee.
The response was as if I was going to rip them off by using PayPal and then disputing the transaction.
I'd always thought "goods and services " protected both parties.
Direct payment like Zelle or FF are non protected for buyer.

One reason someone might do that, is almost always (90%) the buyer wins any dispute. No matter if it's buyer remorse or not. Also, they give you 180 days to file a dispute.

So say you buy a gun, and 5 months later you develop a leak. You could file a dispute, and the seller would have to honor the return and pay return shipping on a gun you've done God knows what with. If they refuse, PayPal will just take your money out of your account and pay them back.

The other reason I can think of, they don't want to be forced to pay taxes on an item they most likely paid taxes on already when they bought it AND lost money on when selling it.

well, what can you do beside wait till you find a person that wants to play
over the years i have bought most of mine off Gun Broker and Ebay or new and stopped going to the PO to get checks, for one it is a hassle and two they come out your checking account
you did your part you shopped, and you offered to pay

I agree they are no where near as convenient as PP or other digital venue.
What do you mean by they come out of your checking account? I did not understand what you were trying to say.

I would worry about a seller with that attitude.
Especially considering the tax issue really does not exist because the IRS is not enforcing the $600 ruling.
Therefore, to me, any seller fearing the buyer might be dishonest is an indication of probable dishonesty of the seller
Just walk away

Starting this tax season, for 2024, all sales totalling over $600 will be subject to tax. If you can prove it was sold at a loss, you may be exempt.

They pushed it off again in 23, but it's the real deal this time. I guess they want us to print out every single item we bought and then sold... yeah, I think they'll just stick it to us per usual.

I sure wish we had a gun owner friendly way to transfer funds.
It’s called cashiers check or USPS money order. It takes longer but there are no reporting issues.

Also, if you’re concerned about being ripped off, don’t buy from private sellers you don’t trust.

And sellers who don’t deliver on a USPS money order payment are subject to federal mail fraud charges. It’s not often proven but it seems to have sent the scammers in other directions.

PayPal decided to dispute me one time over nothing at all. I’ve never attempted to recover my account since then. They might be the biggest scammer of all.

I like PP FF because of the tax thing and PP always siding with the buyer because of the stories told on here about sellers being scammed the buyer gets the Airgun then files a claim they never received the item or it was broke and the seller lost his money and Airgun, I request FF an if my good feedback doesn't mean anything then buy somewhere else plain and simple. I also accept postal money orders or personal checks if I know the person and when it clears I ship.

Two positive feedbacks is not much
No definitely not that’s why I always for larger items talk with people over the phone. If those things are not enough then one shouldn’t be dealing online. It’s always a risk. Life is risk. Hell every single one of us drives out of our garage every single day and think not one thing of it. We are all putting waaaay more trust in many more strangers to do their part of the deal than buying and selling online.

Will that IRS rule apply to billionaires?

I got a fake POMO this past spring, I'd take a personal check first but cash is king.
