N/A A question for our British members, and locals too

I have a nice English made Webley Longbow in .22. I really like how it shoulders. It’s my favorite carbine.
However the breech seems very tight. JSB HN seem too tight. Are there other pellets with smaller diameter?
there are not a lot of people who have this gun so I don’t know if this is normal.
Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated

Thats a sweet rifle. Quite a nice finish.

I have had several tight loading rifles. I experimented with 3 things. I didn't chrono anything. Just shot 25 yard targets.

Shoot a smaller pellet. My accuracy suffered with the easier loading pellets I've tried.

Use a seating tool with tight pellets. My accuracy seemed to be better.

Polish the breech so the pellets you are using fit. No difference in accuracy. Just easier loading.

It's been my experience the tight ones are the accurate ones. I like the idea of sizing and engraving the pellet by hand. But the rifle I polished the "chamber" on loads great and shoots great. It didn't take much effort and it is much more convenient than a seating tool.

Well
Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I found I have two pellets with smaller head size, JSB Stratton 5.50, and AIR ARMS 16 grain. The Straton pellets are in an old JSB test pack, not very many. The AA is practically new 500 tin.
I also saw the the hades is 5.50 I might order those.

Next week I’ll shoot them for accuracy and get back to y’all.

That is one beautiful air rifle! We call those a “Brum-Bow” as it was made in Birmingham (later ones were Turkish), it is a sought after gun!

I have never heard of the breech being tight, what other brands of pellet do you have to try?
I found a couple with 5.50 and 5.51 I’ll give those a go. They definitely fit mo better.

Brum bow I like that, there is or was a really talented guy here in California “Timmy Mac“ who imported a bunch of them and sold them I think he just cleaned them up and did a lube tune. We called them “Tim Bows”.
Or maybe it was the Tomahawk and we called it the Timmy Hawk. Gosh it was a long time ago,

Thanks Bob I’ll get it back to the range and shoot it with some more pellets,

The H&N FTT 14.66 gr 5.53 mm pellets seem to be a snug fit in my HW95L. I use an old Turkey slate call striker to seat them which I believe helps with consistency.

You have a beautiful rifle that I know how proud you must be of it!
Thanks
Is your barrel a LW that came with a threaded pepper pot brake? Yeah, what head size are you using?
Don’t know what barrel assuming it’s a stock barrel. Was trying 5.52 and was way tight,

I shot a couple tins of Norma Golden Trophy pellets in .22. They shot great but they loaded loosely in my rifles. The loosest pellet I've tried so far. They're cheap at Pyramid. The only reason I don't buy them is they sometimes fall out when I'm closing the action. They might be just the ticket for your gun.
