The November match wraps up our 2024 outdoor FT season. We had a threat of rain, so all our course loops were setup on our covered ranges. There were a few sprinkles toward the end of the event, but everyone was able to stay dry. There were a few new to FT shooters at this match, and I hope they had a good time and we get a chance to see everyone again over the winter or in the 2025 season.
In the spirit of the upcoming World FT competition, we used targets with 15mm, 1 inch, and 1.5 inch kill zone sizes, with about 25% of the targets being reduced KZ sizes. There were more targets at the longer ranges than our typical mix. The Green course was on the west side of our range and was shot from the deck allowing for a few wooded shots and downhill shots. The Blue course was on the east side of the range, where it is typically located. The leaves on the range helped identify what the wind was doing, and it is always fun to see a tornado of leaves go over the targets. The Red course was on the pistol range, and it too had wind, but unfortunately not many leaves or down range wind indicators; it was like shooting over a parking lot, and many struggled with the indeterminate wind on this part of the course.
The AAFTA three course average difficulty was 30.9 (hard) and the individual course section had the following average difficulties (not including environmental factors):
