Is there a good compressor under $1000 usd that will fill 100 cu. ft. scuba tank efficiently?

The firefighter's Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) tank is far more popular than SCUBA around here. Higher pressure ratings and lighter weight are two main reasons. An authentic Yong Heng (pictured), with water coalescing and molecular sieve filters, less than $400, will have no problem filling tanks. WM

The GX CS4 is so much nicer than the YH speaking as someone who has both. Quiet, compact, self-contained and I've had fewer problems with mine. They're both good but if I had to pick one... I just got tired of having to have dedicated floor space in my basement and having to go down there and put on ear protection every time I filled

Definitely recommend the GX Pump CS4! For the money, it's the best bang for the buck currently on the market!

I do not have a GX4 but I like my 3+ year old YH. Nearly all I use it for is filling my 45 minute fireman's tank. It takes less than 30 minutes. It is noisy but I measured the noise at less than 85 db so no hearing protection required. I think a tank refill with a GX4 will take several times as long.

I'd like to have both and would use the GX4 for gun fills and for traveling. May happen.

The CS4 is far more quiet then the YH. I haven't started my YH in over 2 years now. Plus with the CS4, and you like using bottles, you can take both with you, refill/top off your bottle while you shoot too... you'll always have air.

The YH can fill faster, but your not going to really take that thing anywhere with you.

When you say "efficiently" hope you don't mean QUICKLY. "Economy" compressors need to be pampered & not pushed to go beyond what they're capable of. Authentic Yong Heng has been my choice & has served me well. No regrets. GSX4 owners seem to feel likewise. Either one will fill 4500psi SCBA carbon fiber tanks with NO problem.

Gerry, I’ve learned over the years, that the airgun crowd likes using that word “efficiently” a lot, but don’t truly understand the meaning and how it’s tied into pcp’s. Truly a word that can have different meanings with everyone

Ok seem like this is a battle between the Yong heng and the gx4.

Yong heng
Pros: faster, cheaper, more parts easily accessible, easy to repair if needed.
Cons: need own water tank, louder, run only on wall outlet, not 12v car battery

Gx4
Pros: quieter, has own water tank built in, runs on 12v or 120 wall outlet
Cons: twice as expensive as Yong heng, parts not as easily accessible, 5 times slower filling than yong heng. Gx cs4 fill rate 11L per min. Yong heng fill rate 50L per min.

Also, multi-year successful usage established with authentic Yong Heng, pending with GX4. WM

I've no experience with the GSX4 & it's fill rate/speed but thrilled with my newish (6 months) YH. I topped off 45 & 60 minute tanks yesterday from 3K psi to 4300psi in 10 minutes TOTAL run time. Never turned off compressor when switching fill adapter from tank to tank. My older YH would have taken 20 minutes or more to do the same. How fast is the GSX4?

The gx cs4 is about 5 times slower than a yong heng. Gx cs4 flow rate is 11L per min. Yong heng is 50L per min.

Thx for that info. So, if my calculations are correct, a 1 hour SCBA tank (88 cu. ft. or 2492 liters) should take 50ish minutes of run time to fill from empty with a YH. (Not counting cool off breaks)

Remember these are manufacture stats only. Yours may very. I used to own an yong heng and I Remember filling my 6.8L tank from empty to 4500 psi took about 1 hrs 20 mins. To top off from 3000 psi to 4500 psi too about 20-25 minutes.

@Mr.Suave Keep in mind, you'll only have to fill that 100 cu/ft tank up from empty the one time, when you first get it. (Though I'd do the initial first full fill from a dive shop or the fire barn due to air conditioner dryers and good high pressure air.) Also, when using a large tank to fill a pcp multiple times, you don't ever completely drain it. You'll only use it's air pressure down close to the gun's regulator pressure setting and then refill it, about 130-170 bar, or 1885-2465 psi. Even on my big bores, which are air hogs, the Yong Heng only has to run for about 10-15 minutes with my 98 cu/ft tank.

Did a bunch of reading, ersearching and asking and this is what I bought this past summer. Definitely worth the $540 shipped to my door.

If there is a problem I can’t take care of on my own, is there repair service for the GX pump in the US? Thanks.

I do not know. But there's a YouTube video where someone shows a breakdown of the compressor. It looks easy to tear apart and replace one of the five or six major parts. Each part is easily bought and looks easy to replace.
