Do You Shoot At A "Range"?

I can shoot to 40 yards in my back yard, 55 if diagonal. I also go to the range about a 15 min drive and can shoot PB or whatever. Ranges are
3 pistol ranges, a 50, 100, 200, 1000 yard rifle ranges, as well as a shotgun range. If I go, I go during the week when it's usually nobody there.
Growing up in the 70's and 80's we could shoot almost anywhere, and land owners were happy to let us hunt, trap, fish and shoot. Which is where we stayed most of the time, in the woods..lol.
When I was looking for a house one of my main things on the list was enough land to shoot air rifles in the back yard, and if I ever move I will buy more land.

Here in CA the laws governing any sort of “projectile” are so severely limiting (within city limits) that, strictly speaking, it would be illegal to pop a champagne cork.
That said, I use the basement as an airgun range. Anyone outside the house cannot see or hear anything going on down there.
Furthermore, considering the ruckus that goes on around here on Cinco de Mayo (illegal fireworks and the occasional sound of full-auto fire in the distance) without any arrests, I figure I’ve got nothing to worry about.

Illegal to shoot in my yard, however I still do but not for extended periods, and the stress of it in my scenario isn't really worth it, juice is not worth the squeeze, both of my neighbors have several kids and even neighbor kids over playing more times than not if its nice out, would be rude to shoot even safely into a backstop when they're outside.

So I shoot mostly indoor, and rarely, because 11 yards isn't that fun... I don't go out of my way and day to shoot live things dead unless I am starving which I am not, but those are my circumstances and I don't hold anyone else to them.

Private ranges and national forests are too far of a drive, would be nearly an all day event just to shoot for a few hours for me, so convenience isn't there living in a suburban environment.

You said 11 yards . try 10 yard targets , look up 10 yard Olympic rules for pistol and rile . Yes it sounds boring ! but it also becomes a real challenge and rewarding at the same time .

There is a hunting club about half an hour from home and I am going to try to talk to people that own and run that club. There are huge numbers of deer and black bear (wild turkey, fox, bobcat, and on and on but most hunters are after deer or bear) so it would not be safe during hunting season. That is not a good solution as half the year I would not go on that land. I don't know if they have a membership for "non hunters" but my choices are so few that I will investigate that possibility. If they do - well the cost will be part of the decision. Thanks for all the replies. I am envious of you that live and shoot on your own land!

Off topic but I looked at the North Carolina Wildlife Commission web site and in just eastern North Carolina they estimate there are about 11,000 black bear and that number is growing so they need to increase the number harvested by hunters! That's not somewhere I want to be!
they probably have a range to sight in scopes . or a place you might set up a portable "tub target " i am sure one o the rules for hunters is no shooting in the direction of the club house or what ever they named it . it is worth a try .

I live about a half mile outside the city. Been here 35 years. Woods behind house is town parkland now with extensive
bike trails. In NY state you have to be 500 ft. from other houses I’m about 50 ft. In the past for years I shot my hunting
bows up to 50 yards in my yard and never really thought about it. But that’s just as illegal as a gun. I have shot squirrels
with Aguilla SSS subsonic 60 gr 22lr from window before the bike trail. Very recently needed to deter them squirrels and
this brought me to Airguns and here.

As far as the gun range I’m a member of a 1000 yd range about 5 miles from me. It has a covered pavilion for 25 to 200 yds. I’ve been to lazy to go there for the last couple years but shooting air is recharging me to get back to it.
As for right now my range is 40 ft. in my cellar. Just gotta get that chrony working inside.
