Have any of you bought, or considered buying, a gun out of the classifieds just because it was local?

I browse the classifieds very frequently and will admit that location plays a roll when I decide to purchase anything. I feel like I’m much, much more tempted to buy something I’m only mildly interested in if I’m able to buy it in person. For instance, I wasn’t even shopping for a new gun and stumbled across a Daystate Ranger(?) that was listed by zx10wall that really got me going. Now this isn’t a gun I would have been shopping for, but as soon as I saw the seller, I started paying attention. Not only is Derrick well known here, but he also lives in a town that almost borders the one I live in, and that carries weight. I clicked away from that ad but it was with mild reluctance. The next time I logged on, I almost immediately searched out the ad, saved a picture he posted in it, and with more than mild reluctance this time, moved on without sending him a PM. Less than 24 hours later I’d convinced myself that if he still had it, I’d message him and see if selling locally meant as much to him as buying locally does to me. By this time though, that beauty of gun was listed as sold. Three days later I’m still not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
Some time back (last year maybe?) in a thread about Forum suggestions, I may or may not have suggested that sellers should at least list a state in their ad title when posting in the classified section. As I sit here thinking about how close I came to potentially buying a gun that I didn’t care the least about or even know existed several days ago, I realize how dangerous that is. So sellers, please for the love of God, if you live in Texas, DO NOT put your state in your ad title. ESPECIALLY if you live east of Austin and, oh, let’s say south of maybe Dallas, JUST DON’T DO IT.
Thanks in advance.

@techna Nah. I buy guns because either I’ve admired from from afar and think that I can use them better than something that I have or I’ve done my homework on them. When I buy in Texas I have to drive at least an hour. Yea y’all are close and he will likely always have something to sell. You live in a nice little town. I love some of those little ranches out there. I’ve seen some good looking horses out that way. There were some off of a short little stretch of highway across some train tracks when coming from the city off of 249.

@techna, do you mean only Texas, or all states? I tapped all five of the screen names, number 2 through 6, and each one has their state listed, some even list their city. Not sure how easy it is to locate those folks if a bad guy wanted to rob them. Not sure how vulnerable a person might be for an airgun break in but it’s possible. Now PB’s, that’s another matter I’m thinkin’.
Without a last name, and most likely a first name I think it’s pretty tough to locate a seller from AGN.
And to respond to your OP on selling/buying locally I have had good luck on both.

My post was meant as a somewhat tongue in cheek (humorous), somewhat self deprecating, somewhat of a plea for validation type thing. That may have been lost in translation perhaps…
I’m not suggesting that I will ONLY buy local, just that I’m susceptible to a locally available deal even if it isn’t on something I was specifically seeking. I’m more than willing to buy from someone out of state and have done so here. FWIW, I do understand that most users list at least their state in their profile and I do know how to access the info if it is there.

Funny, I don't really have anyone that's close to me except two people; one 10mins away and one 30mins away. the rest are two hours or more. I live in a rural area so seeing in person is kind of out of the question. For me, I do my research and look at the number of positive transactions a seller has. When I started here, I bought items instead of selling them so my positive sales numbers would go up. I hardly ever purchase or consider something when a person has a 0/0/0 on their profile. Doesn't mean it's a scam, but really makes me cautious.
