N/A FX M4 Compact vs Krait Standard vs BRK Ghost Carbine

Hello and Happy New Year,

I've narrowed my options down to three popular airguns, and I’d love to hear your thoughts—especially if you've had the chance to try all three.

I’m not a professional airgunner, so I’m looking for an honest, down-to-earth opinion from someone who knows their stuff. My main goal is to find something compact and quiet for some backyard plinking, but with the flexibility to crank up the power if I spot a coyote sneaking around.

From what I’ve gathered, the M4 is all about tinkering and customization, the Krait is the simple, no-fuss option, and the Ghost is super unique but comes with some pricey, replaceable parts.

I’ve owned plenty of PCP airguns in the past, but I’ve never had to dive into any maintenance or tuning myself. So, they must be reliable.
if you were to recommend one of these three and give it a solid tune-up, I’d likely stick with your settings and leave it at that—no need for experiments on my end.

Also, just to make it clear, I’m not too concerned about the price tag of any of these models.

Given all that, which one would you say is the best fit for me?

If price is no object and infinite adjustment are not your cup of tea from those three I would go with the ghost. Ghost as long as you aren’t super interested in shooting slugs exclusively. However that would go against not having to tune a lot as slugs require it. Therefore I come back to the ghost. Throw some pellets in it and adjust the wheel to your desired speed. Whatever caliber you choose if you want to shoot pellets on the light end of the spectrum get the 17” barrel model. If you want heavy pellets go with the 23” HP.

I think Trucker3573 is right the ghost in the gun planing on getting a ghost carbine in 177 for hft shooting plus less o rings to fix waiting to see brk is coming out for 2025.

I haven’t had the opportunity to fondle a Krait or M4, am sure they are fine guns. That said, my .22 Ghost Carbine is da bomb, I compare and contrast it to my Pathfinder and Atomics often. The pictures, images and videos of the Ghost simply pale in comparison to holding and sending some rounds downrange… I vote the Ghost…

Do they have a power wheel to dial the power on the spot or do we need some tools to do it?

I really like the krait, it will shoot slugs or pellets. My goto is my delta wolf, but it has a custom Lothat Walther barrel and will shoot slugs as accurately or better than pellets, but it is only a 10rd magazine in .25. I plink and carry my M3 more due to the large magazine and much cheaper caliber changes amd magazines. So for versatility pellets and alugs with less orings = Krait. Pellet accuracy and less orings = ghost. Big mags easy, less costly caliber changes = Impact. All have equal triggers.

Hammer spring dial at back of gun and regulator adjustment knob right above bottle. So yes to both your questions…🙏 No tools…

The reg adjustment requires the tank to be removed, and the gun degassed. The hammer/power wheel works as it should. The M4 can make big power with lower pressure and hammer settings, and is easier to adjust in the field. As for reliability, that depends on how, and how often you use the gun. I've sold both, and tuned both. I would go with the M4.

@humbled.ag is correct. Adjusting the Krait is a PITA! The Ghost is much easier and I have no Impact so I cannot speak to it other than what folks have said on the forum. The Krait standard is definitely my smallest gun with the longest barrel and it is almost pistol size! I guess I'll have to add an Impact so that I won't feel left out! :ROFLMAO:

Thought of another thing in favor of the ghost. You are a hunter/pester and the impact platform is plagued with “slow first shots after sitting” syndrome which is a no go for hunting. There are threads on fixing this issue but why fix when you can buy without. I have no experience with the krait line. My only comment would be that you have to look at them at some point during use and that would be a turn off for me personally.

Edit: Also have no direct experience with the ghost. However I have researched them quite extensively as I was very interested. The expense part of them is all that kept me away.

Impact and Ghost are both awesome guns. The impact will cost you to get there though, both in terms of aftermarket parts (you’ll want CF liner sleeve at the very least) and time/nerves to tune and maintain performance. The ghost is easy to set up to your liking and adjust on the go, holds its tune and is an absolute pleasure to shoot. If I could only have one of the two I’d go ghost. Can’t comment on the krait since I don’t have one (yet :)).

Well put. I appreciate the comparison.

Well, i sold my krait. I now only.shoot my Delta Wolf and M3. I do have a Snowpeak P35x due in today that will do well with .177 slugs. The p35x bats well above it's price. I keep what i shoot,no collecting here. That pic is also a krait compact, the regular krait and krait X put out quite a bit of power. The action on the Krait is what i didnt like,it stops at about 90° i like it to swing further back, also the extra leverage males it easier and smoother.

Can Ghost handles any slugs at all?
