FX M3 @ 1100fps Results might surprise you !!!

I am going to throw the cat amongst the pigeons...

It seems to be the accepted "Normal" to run velocities of sub 1000fps.

My preference and use of my Airgun is extended range... my go to distance i shoot most is 200yds ... and all the way out to 500yds.

Along the journey of many many many "Slugs" downrange by chance i found the NSA 22cal 27.5gr ( 218 ) in my M3 "Loved" velocity !!! This combo has produced some of the best groups i have achieved with the M3.
I usually just shoot this slug and tune at 200yds to which it is very consistent and very accurate . Today prompted by my "Other" thread i thought id run through some groups at 105 yds....varying breeze and a mother of storms brewing in the background.

As can be seen , of the groups a few are just over 1/2 moa......and as the wind settled towards the end i shot the 20 shot group that goes at 1 moa, BUT ...19 of the shots went 3/4 moa!!

This combo holds up extremely well... :)

Yep, slugs like speed, eapecially in a slow twist barrel. Pellets do not, but slugs do. I used to follow a couple brits that were pushimg slugs into the 1100s, but then you ruin the point of quiet air. I did have an evanix that would send 13g slugs at 1100 and it was MOA or less at 100yds.

The issue is the sound barrier and the projectile disruption when approaching, entering, and exiting the sonic zones. This applies to all objects traveling through the atmosphere at these speeds. We dont usually push slugs that fast since they normally get wonky twice, and accuracy suffers. Some projectiles do much better or worse depending on design, but all are affected. Your weather conditions, and elevation can also influence this so your mileage may vary.

Im curious if your groups improve or maybe stay the same at say 1050fps? What about 1150fps? A little more fps is not worth the jostle imo.

Grouping at circa 1045fps isn't as consistent as 1100ish....especially at extended ranges.
At 1150-1180fps there are to many "flyers"...
1100fps with this combo just turned out to be the sweet spot..

The DNT is a terrific optic ...it defies its cheap price tag.....and i own some of the finest optics money can buy .. S&B, ZCO ,Tangent Theta , Kahles NF , March...

One sample DNT i have on one of my HTI,s ( 50 Bmg) now has over 1000 rounds with not one issue..

Bloody hell, that is not working in my .177.

At one time i did shoot 13 grain at 1050 fps, but it was erratic and dropping to 970 i had much better groups

I am going to try other stuff at those speeds though CUZ i dont think i have tried +1000 FPS, but i do not have hopes up at all seeing my results at more moderate speeds ( 20 - 22 - 24 grain slugs or at least 22 & 24 i am pretty sure i have not shot that fast )

1050 youre on edge of being trans-sonic, 1150 will keep you in supersonic. You always want to be above super or below, never in the middle.
