HW/Weihrauch HW97K cocking arm broken

I was working on my 97K and snapped the little lug off the shoe part of the cocking arm that fits into the compression tube.

Can I get a blob welded onto it and file it back to shape? I am guessing the tip that broke is hardened.

Anyone had this issue and fixed it themself, or is it easier just to buy a new one? I do have the ability to shape it, just not weld it.

Id contact air guns of Arizona as well being there the weihtauch warranty and distributor guys on just getting the arm from them .

I guess as long as your not paying someone to weld it or anything a new 29$ lever seems well worth it on a $600$ gun. (Opinion)

It's fragile and easy to bend if the angle isn't perfect when removing/installing it.

Just get another one. And a new cross pin too. Available at PA or AOA.

Peening the pin back over can be a trick. I've used a pillow block and a punch/hammer and it works. A couple ball bearings and a vice works better. Just be careful and flare out the edges of the pin evenly and tight in the bores on the cocking handle. And use a drop of oil every time you shoot it. The cross pin wears and will cause all sorts of issues when there is a bit of slack in the linkage. Get it tight and keep it oiled.

The pin in mine is straight, without the lobe on it.

Have ordered a new arm. Was reminded that the little nub also stops the finger guillotine from operating, so that's enough reason for me.

My pin was straight. There is no lobe. That is wear.

Order a new pin. It's peened in there. Once you punch it out of the cocking arm it's going to be loose there. And you'll be trying to peen over the ragged edges. A new pin is cheap and highly recommended.

The anti bear trap just keeps the trigger from being pulled. It dosent block the fall of the piston. So it's of limited value. And it prevents decocking the rifle. Most guys opt to take that bear trap linkage off so the rifle can be decocked without having to fire it.

Loctite 609 should hold that new pin in just fine. Don't get it into the hole in the arm. 😬

It's an interference fit in the cocking arm. It moves (slips) in the cocking lever where the ends are peened over.

If it's tight in the cocking arm bore things are groovy. If it's not things go south quickly. It wallows and wears.

A new pin fits perfectly and is less cost than a tube of "secret sauce" taking up slack in a poorly fitting part. No amount of space age goop is going to stop the pin from wearing if it's not tight in the cocking arm.

New pin it is. The pain is the postage to NZ is 3 or 4 times the cost.

I understand. It will be worth the cost. Use the old one until then. If it wobbles in the bore of the cocking arm it ruins the whole thing. A new pin insures the job lasts.

They make a shoulder bolt and thin nut that replaces the pin. It's a good improvement. Somewhere on these forums there is a link to it. For sale on the internet somewhere...

You can find the hardware at the store and grind it down yourself. The bolt head and nut just needs to clear the slot in the stock so they must be thinned. A little nut and shoulder bolt work great and are probably better than a new pin.

However it's done the only important thing is no slack in the cocking linkage. Anything that is loose and the safety won't engage and the comp tube has slack in it. It will slam the breech when it fires and ruin breech seals. So the fit of that pin is truly important.

Just a little slack and it affects both ends of the stroke on the linkage....when its at full cock it sets the safety and trigger. Closed (ready to fire) it holds the comp tube against the breech. Any slack loosens the breech fit and causes the safety to not engage. That pin is where you get slack in the linkage. It is really critical.

...I learned that from the pin in the photo. .008 wear and it wouldn't cock the trigger or set the safety at full cock. And the comp tube had exactly that much slack when the cocking handle was closed. The wear on that little pin fouled up everything. It's the weakest link in an otherwise excellent rifle.

...I'm assuming you were replacing the factory spring when the cocking arm got in a bind and you buggered it up?

aoa is worthless for parts. check pyramyd
My experience is opposite. AOA has had most everything I've needed and some real hard to find parts like NOS barrels and compression tubes.

On the flip side PA has more than once sent me their Air Venturi seals as Weihrauch substitutes when i ordered Weihrauch brand parts.
Once they even sent me the base model Hw95 stock when they advertised and charged me for the 95 Luxus stock. When i called them they wanted me to pay return shipping plus a 15% restocking fee because it technically fit the rifle. PA is a last ditch vendor for me. They're terrible.
