Quality Compact Scopes

Just ordered the Discovery HD 2-12 myself. Hasn’t come in yet but the specs are very hard to beat, especially at $189 shipped with rings. Very compact at 8.5” and just over 16oz. Seems like a great airgun optic.

With a little work , when I have time I can show a photo of a brand new 5-25 discovery that has never been mounted in rings or put on a gun.
It displays an un-centered reticle and is useless. That guy Charlie at airgun optics plus won't even answer his phone anymore. Probably due to the number of scopes that were sent back. They are pieces of junk in my opinion. I have one if anybody wants it. It would make a good ash tray , or a handy weapon to beat an intruder with.
These are two different scopes altogether. Thus far there have been no issues reported with the small DiscoveryOpt HD 2-12x24SFIR scope.

Also, why not send it back to the DiscoveryOpt factory for warranty? Email them, as they have good communication there.

I might try that but sending it back to China probably cost almost as much as I paid for the scope.

Wow I had no idea this was happening.

Have you tried centering the reticle? Someone probably moved the turrets. You can re center a scope…

Probably user error honestly.

What are you guys talking about? User error? I'm not speaking in terms of optically centering a reticle in a tube.
I know, ok? Everybody wants to defend their brand loyalty scopes. Ok I didn't mean to stir the hornets nest. Again.
. You can turn the turrets until the cows come home. You are not going to center this scope. The etching is wrong.
It will probably hold mark 0. But the reticle is off.
There is a youtube video on it. So there are at least two people this has happened to.
That is not me in the video. I'm much more handsome.

Mind sending it to me if it’s garbage? Sounds like you can’t figure it out and nobody answers your phone calls 😂 if it’s junk why don’t you send it to me and give it a good home. There’s ways to fix reticles believe it or not. You’ve never used it, never mounted it, so clearly you haven’t even tried to fix it. Care to send it my way? I’ll pay shipping.

I've got a number of PCP and spring piston air rifles and have some (what I think) are nice scopes like Athlon, Sightron, Arken and Hawke scopes that at a quality level enough for my shooting activites. I've had cheap scopes before and have no desire to buy any more of them. I do have a couple of break barrel rifles, especially my TX200, that needed a compact scope to get out of the way of the loading port. Anything longer than 11 or 12 inches is too much. I saw the introduction of the GPO Centuri Super Compact scope and my heart skipped a beat. At 9.9 inches long, it's perfect for these applications and the quality is as good as the stuff I currently use. Trouble is, at the time, they were unavailable. A lot of you had good remarks about the Vector Optics Veyron Ultra Compact available in either SFP or FFP. I thought: hmm another cheap scope, and was reluctant to buy one, but I needed one at the moment so I bought the SFP (my preference)model on Amazon for $229. It's 10.5 inches long and is lightweight at 19.5 oz. and has all the features I'm looking for. Much to my surprise, it's a decent scope. It's bright, has a good FOV, good build quality, a useful reticle and it works. My only criticism is that I just can't focus the reticle for my eyesight. It's ok, but just a wee bit fuzzy.

Then the GPOs came in so I bought one of those. It's FFP, and I can live with that since I shoot mostly at the upper end of the magnification scale. Cost for this is $629. I feel that the FOV seems a little less as it looks like I'm looking down a tunnel despite what the specs say. The reticle is the perfect thickness for me. Optics? I would have to give the clarity to the Veyron. I can focus on my 10M air rifle target a tad sharper with it. Is it worth twice the price?? I think if I need another compact scope, I would buy the Veyron and save the money. The Chinese have been making inroads into the lower cost optics. Would I use any of these for competition like FT or BR? No, but that's another story.

How about this line of scopes? I don't see many people talking about them, are they good scopes, glass, sharp image..etc. The UK guys seem to like them a lot. Anybody here have them on their springers and can talk about their experience with them?

You can't fix it. That's what I have been trying to tell you. Now if you remove the reticle( re-polish the etched element and then re-etch it.)
Lets make a deal. How about I send you the scope, if you can fix it I will pay you , oh I don't know, 20-30 bucks. And a beer.
If you can't fix it, you send the scope back, plus 20 or 30 dollars and a beer.
Deal?

I have good scopes made by those "bad" brands....quality control must suck...Here is what I would do about that ; I like Discovery scopes so I would order one from a know quality seller that I trust to do me right.
Get this, there is a reason why some sellers are highly rated, there is a reason many people like Discovery scopes.
I think problems occur when trying to save money$$$ by ordering from a unknown seller...

Are you saying that Charlie is a bad seller? Seemed like a nice guy to me at the time.

It’s extremely unlikely the etching is off. What happens is the internal lenses get shifted or rotate and it LOOKS as if the reticle is off. I read a post a few days ago of someone with a similar problem who was able to fix theirs.

I make a lot more than $30 an hour and don’t drink, so you’ll have to lowball someone else. If I find the post I’d send it your way, but I can already tell you don’t have the skill or patience to do the work. Like you said, in your hands, it’s essentially garbage. Good luck. If I can find the article I’ll send it your way.

Same here, but we can find some nice scopes in the $300 to $800 range. If I ever have some money to piss away I will try one of IOR Valdada scopes.

Higher quality or highest quality;

I've mentioned this before a bunch of times on this forum, and over at SH forum, that many would be surprised at the odd IQ when looking through the March compact and high mag ratio scopes. These are the best money can buy when considering those two attributes. So if ones fantasy scope is to get one of these you might be disappointed if you got one. I am a little bit that way with my 10x mag ratio March 1-10 DFP shorty in IQ from 8x up. That being said the build quality is awesome and so is the feature set.
This is why I didn't buy March's 1.5-15 because I'd already learned my lesson.

I've had a March 3-24, and a 5-42 that depending on what higher magnification they were on they lacked in the IQ department. So I sold them since I'm on higher magnification much of the time. Like on the 5-42 if I stayed below 20x the IQ was fantastic but I didn't buy it for that.

For some reason though my March Genesis has very nice IQ and I can only guess it's because it's always optically centered since it's a externally adjusted mechanism. This is the exception though I wouldn't call it a super compact scope.

A compact scope with high mag ratio usually isn't going to give better IQ than one just like it without high mag ratio. So without looking through the other super compacts mentioned like 3-12's, etc, with mid mag ratio, they are probably acceptable enough in IQ I suppose.

Dairy, or others, I'm curious, how is the IQ in the Discovery 2-12 compared to the Helos G2 2-12? I should probably just order a D2-12 just to see for myself.
