Why that gun sold for the big price was the factory gun.., the seller is known , and Someone wanted one for a collection. Not to shoot , it Would be my guess. They are 12 ft lb guns when tweaked which they need some for sure.

ebay new policy sucks,I have bought a lot of air guns in ebay,not anymore, Fact is a got a English made Longbow like that on ebay last year.I got it a lot less.I got a JM kit for it,it waits to be installed.

They benefit from a lot more than drop in springs. If your familiar with the UK SITES you can get some info. I’ve owned several and modded every one I own. Not for power but to smooth them out. They are over sprung (even Macarri kit)
with a big 250 gram piston with a 84 mm stroke. .118 port and poor seal.
when tweaked they are great and use a spring with 27 coils of much easier to cock than any 33 coil kit or factory which is a good spring but it needs cutting.

That's not eBay policy, it must have been the seller's policy. I've noticed some sellers on gunbroker and other auction websites with the same restriction. They erroneously think that there's some law that makes it illegal for them to ship airguns to CA.

I have had the same problem. When you hit "Buy Now" on every single air pistol that can be bought now, you get a message. I tried to contact eBay with the issue but without success. What does living in California have to do with the problem?
