šŸ“ˆ End-of-Year Balance: How much $$ did you spend in 2024ā“

I'd say that I spent just the right amount on airguns, ammunition and support equipment to meet my needs/wants. šŸ˜

No idea of the total, my wife's the family accountant and she takes care of the paperwork.

But I'm done buying. Have all the airguns that I need for the disciplines that interest me and purchases in 2024 were for the ones that I've wanted, for no particular reason, just because.

So from now on forward it's just ammunition and maintenance costs.

I was thinking about getting a Corbin swaging press but I've decided to make one myself. Figure that if the guys in India can make swaging presses out of scrap metal, using hand tools then I've an excellent chance of cobbling something together as well. At worst case it will be a fun project and, with any luck, I might actually produce some shootable slugs.

No, not going to post a $$$$$ figure. I didn't compromise any household budgets so all is good. šŸ™‚

Not going to justify my purchases either. Going to enjoy my hobbies while I still can.

Cheers!

Sorry just my opinion but not really a topic for the forum as it shouldnā€™t matter to anyone hereā€¦.i donā€™t care what anyone else spentā€¦.it isnā€™t anyone elseā€™s business. Again sorry no offense just my thoughts.
Probably why you don't see many putting in actual dollar amounts.

6 items into it off the top of my head and I'm already at $6025, I don't want to count anymore...

Yeah, it was different for me.
I had few large items ā€” those that can be remembered easily and added up.

It was all THE LITTLE STUFF that just kept adding up....! šŸ˜±

ā— Little stuff adding up like this:
I had a bad experience needing a rangefinder ā€” when I had none. So, I bought a backup rangefnder.
And then, the classifieds had a good deal on a backup for the backup. And soon, another really really good deal.
After that I seemed to have lost track how deep my backup levels went. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«
Or my anemometer backup levels. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

ā— Little stuff adding up like this:
On a recent longer shooting trip I decided to take all my mounts to be able to swap scopes around however I felt like.
So, I put them in plastic bags sorted by scope tube diameter. The 3 plastic bags went into a duffle bag.
Now, they claim that aluminum is light. But when I carried the duffle bag to the car ā€” I couldn't believe how heavy it was! šŸ˜µ

Yeah small stuff like rangefinders, and scopes aren't much for an issue for me. Ammo is definitely an issue, on top ot hat given that I normally trade stuff here, I usually get 70-80% of my money back on the big items. Honestly, it's like you said, it's small stuff lol.

I greatly reduced spending by getting into casting my own ammo in .22 and .25... especially .25. If I owned larger caliber guns I wouldn't even consider buying manufactured ammo. The key there is to find others casting ammo and see if you can buy a few samples before you invest in molds. It's great to have several great guns... unless they all like different ammo.

šŸ“ˆ End-of-Year Balance:

How much $$ did you spend in 2024ā“

Seriously.
How ā€¢ much ā€¢ money ā€¢ did ā€¢ you ā€¢ spend ā€¢ on ā€¢ airgunning ā€¢ in ā€¢ 2024?

I know the excuse šŸ˜‰: Some people can't do the calculation ā€” because they don't keep track.

So they are never in danger to experience the shock I am just trying to recover from.... šŸ„“

This afternoon ā€” for fun I thought ā€” I added up the balance.

Without gasoline for trips to hunt and target shoot.
Just projectiles, scope mounts, lights and batteries, silencers, accessories, 1 gun and 2 scopes (used).

āž  And all I could do was GASP!! šŸ˜µ

ā“ I don't know how it could add up that quickly to that much.
ā“ I went through the list twice.
ā“ Still don't understand..... šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

ā¬› 2025 will have to be different. ā¬›

I invested heavily up front , buying the best of the best of airguns and scopes, and then as i learned more and more about airguns, i began to whittle down the herd. The whittling down continues, so in a way, my books are showing a PLUS this last year; but in reality I'm only getting back about 70% of what i spent a couple of years prior.
I always try to incorporate shooting events in with my regular vacations so the waters are muddy about what i actually spend on this hobby.
don't forget what you spend on shipping things for repair and or tuning... it's all part of the big picture.

This year I bought 3 tins of slugs for a gun on loan & 2 tins of pellets to test, that's it! I'm blown away how "self contained" I was this year. Wonder if my wife's pissed for not being able to bitch at me about the USUAL yearly outflow. I'll bet it'll never happen again :ROFLMAO:. Oh crap, I just remembered the Yong Heng I got in April. Still, an inexpensive year.
its only Jan of "this year"

I never tried boating ā€”
so I guess I'm a bit more sensitive to high dollar amounts than some of us here who have floated done that particular stream....

Someone mentioned astronomy? Mmm, that's a first. But if taking photos of scenery that is a stonethrow away is expensive, taking pictures of stuff millions of light years away can't be cheap....

Carry on.

Hello Matthias,
same spending ratio as our Airguns hobby. I bought cheaply priced but very usable telescopes and cameras. But then from reading the forum Cloudy Nights fell into the high quality Takahashi Japanese scopes. Very expensive if you buy in the USA
but 30 to 50% off if you buy from certain stores in Japan. I bought them all , 8 scopes, sold one.
They talk about ED glass on here . ED glass is entry level optics. Jealous readers complained to Takahashi American and had the store banned from selling to US.
So far I have not bought the high dollar Airgun ing stuff , most expensive was a RAW 1000x lrt for $1500 on sale.
Just received a Benjamin Kratos from Airgun Revision Thats amazing to me. In my cellar performs as good as the RAW

I ended up pretty good for 2024. Although I bought 5 scopes, 2 D75s and a FWB300 I also sold a high end pb benchrest rifle and scope with a long history of wins that covered what I spent with a bit of change. Oops my LGU that is my first 2025 purchase put a big dent in the balance, lol. Actually since getting into springers my pb ammo yearly consumption of 5 to 6 thousand rounds down to about 1000 is a huge savings.
