I have an Athlon Heras 6-24x50 ffp and was ranging it last weekend. It was difficult to tell the difference for the close ranges, which surprised me, since the 4-20x50 ranged great up close. Maybe it was due to the 20 degree weather?

yes sir.... everyone of those boxes is empty... as in the scope is on an airgun or powder burner. You need that many with all those rifles you shoot!
I might just put my 4-20x50 back on. It already has range marks on it.yep too cold.... i had trouble ranging from my warm inside to the cold outside... eventually gave up.
i would think at 20 degrees you may run into the same thing... even my pricey scopes didn't like ranging in the cold. dunno?I might just put my 4-20x50 back on. It already has range marks on it.
It'll be warmer in Arizona for the FT next month. I'm running short on time to get ready.i would think at 20 degrees you may run into the same thing... even my pricey scopes didn't like ranging in the cold. dunno?
Oh, I see the difference in the Athlon reticle you recommended v/s the Falcon reticle. I’ve only used MOA, and maybe I just got lucky with the setup, that all the holdovers landed on one of the sub tentions. I do like that Athlon reticle though. The scaling between fixed MOA positions is still too wide and no better than a 1/2 mil reticle. as is say a precise .7 hold, guesstimate whats a .5 hold, then . a .75 hold and hold a tad less .... been there & done that for years and it's kinda difficult.
Scaling with .2 Mil eliminates that kinda close guess work.
This weekend i was having great success with my Sightron 10-50x60 ft scope SFP / IR with ther MOA-H reticle on my Redwolf LP.Yes and if need be it's easy to see and use .1mil, which is 1 click. Some think this is too busy whereas I appreciate that utility.
Great scope, it works on my .30 for UFT but I personally find it way to busy for HFT and not spaced out enough to easily find my hold. Also I believe the it is only the center dot? That’s the fun thing about this sport everyone’s perspective is a bit differentThis is what the Athlon SFP APRS7 Mrad reticle looks like at 16X

Wondering if the Troyer factor takes Dark conditions and Dark face plates into consideration. Also the type terrain one shoots ?
Shaded woods, dark targets and such low light shooting will require or be desired a different style reticle than those who shoot in more well lit open spaces where reticle wash out is less likely.
Out west we're absolutely more in the well lit & open terrain type FT shooting. Viewing match report pictures from the eastern side of the country folks at FT shooting more in the woods, edges of, or Deep & shaded.
2025 revised GP rules ... Light or dark no longer has subjective value added to troyer valueWondering if the Troyer factor takes Dark conditions and Dark face plates into consideration.
I imagine somewhere there is a match director with the nickname lord of darkness.
in SFP only center dot illuminates... if my FFP the whole reticle will light up.Great scope, it works on my .30 for UFT but I personally find it way to busy for HFT and not spaced out enough to easily find my hold. Darkness not being a factor in field target is Quite odd to me, as the darker the target faceplate is and the darker the course setting, the more difficult it is to acquire / range / hold on the the KZ. Meh.2025 revised GP rules ... Light or dark no longer has subjective value added to troyer value
With a rule that goes Coast to Coast, the "Subjective" rating of if or not target is dark or light is rather loose as ones dark is anthers non issue etc ....Darkness not being a factor in field target is Quite odd to me, as the darker the target faceplate is and the darker the course setting, the more difficult it is to acquire / range / hold on the the KZ. Bring a spotlight. I don't see it banned by the rules. LolDarkness not being a factor in field target is Quite odd to me, as the darker the target faceplate is and the darker the course setting, the more difficult it is to acquire / range / hold on the the KZ. Meh.
