A short video on YouTube by Airguns Anonymous says the Canex and the hdr 50 pistol share the same unique 'push forward valve' (like a daisy 880 valve, but with a massive external push-back spring to reseal the vave quickly against the rushing co2 gas), and the same rotation and 'striking' mechanisms.
The Canex haa had widespread strike/valve failure, which may just be shavings and crud the more I think about it (I had 3 Canex's and gave up for a little while).
Since the hdr50 pistol and it spinoff is so popular, all its problems and possibilities are well documented on YouTube. There are several power kits for it too. Nice!
The Canex is my most anticipated co2 rifle in years, and I think with this new information, it might make a reliable, easily fixable fun gun for the whole family, and a tuners delight with all the power mods and kits available for the HDR 50.
The short time mine functioned was ridiculously fun!
