H&N HP 25gr (.218) vs ZAN 25.5gr (.218)

I was testing both of these out of my Taipan Vet 2 Long 700mm barrel.

Both are equally accurate out of 50 yds. Its a tossup between the two and is mostly attributed to my lack of marksmanship/trigger control.

However, I noticed one thing that was a bit unexpected. The H&N 25gr (.218) were averaging 945-950 fps (20 shots average) and the Zan 25.5 gr (.218) were around 900-905 fps (20 shots average). I did not and would not expect such a drop in velocity given there is only 0.5 grain difference in weight and are theoretically the same head size.

Anyone else noticed such a speed difference when testing slugs of similar weight and head size but different brands?

The pictures below show the Zan on the left and H&N on the right:

Last week I was just in deep dive with firelapping my 6 liners and toke me a lifetime to finish the entire polishing process on these . This excercise a money cannot buy...
What I learned that the land-groove ratio is playing rough games with speeds and ES/SD. Because each can have their own loose or tight spots - independently.
Adding to the drama - the choke amount.
And I don't want to forget about HN or FX or ZAN lead compound - softer or harder.
So in my eyes - if you would push in a slug but half way only, and retract back, a couple from each Brand,
and measure with micrometer...
compare a blank slug with one that you recovered back from the barrel,
that can give some better answers.
Also a high power jewellery lupe for closer look on shiny faces will give some insights.
