N/A Huben and Western Airgun

If Huben and Western Airguns are made in China (correct me if I am wrong), why are they so expensive?

I’ve been looking into the GK1 and Mordax to add to my collection and came across several articles confirming they’re actually manufactured in China.

I also had a chance to chat in person with a dealer who used to sell Huben, and he shared some interesting insights. He mentioned that the quality has definitely improved.

But I still can’t shake the question: why are they so pricey?

@shoot4fun2
Where are you getting your information regarding Western Airguns being made in China?

Cause people are paying the asking price ... I've seen better made powder burners for far less. Lot of power and no gov't loops, attractive option I guess. I've had a Huben k1 but passed on the Western (say nothing to emails). I assume Western is maybe assembled here in the US from an assortment of parts from whatever - China, maybe a part or two from US ... who knows.

From a reputable dealer.
@shoot4fun2 In your first post you mentioned that you “ came across several articles confirming they’re actually manufactured in China.” I was expecting links to articles. Since you mentioned a dealer, what’s the name of the dealer you’re speaking of?

Google it.

Yes, "Western Air " brand air guns are generally considered to be manufactured in China; the brand is primarily associated with budget-friendly air guns produced by Chinese manufacturers, often with designs similar to other popular air gun brands but at a lower price point.

Key points about Western Air guns:
  • Origin: Primarily manufactured in China.
  • Quality: Often considered a lower-end brand due to its price point, with quality variations depending on the specific model.
  • Design: May mimic designs from other established air gun brands

@shoot4fun2 A recap: Your reply to an inquiry about your sources yielded a “Google it” response and no response to the identity of the “reputable dealer” you mentioned. Duly noted.

@shoot4fun2 You’re smart enough to protect this other entity, but leave yourself vulnerable to a potential rule violation of this site. Anyone with sense can see the BS in that AI generated response.

You come asking questions as if you have solid information and then what you present is highly questionable. I’ve done my own reading and question asking long before this thread was created. You may want to quit while you’re ahead because you may have stepped in something that you cannot smell.

Oh wow, my bad! I clearly had no idea I was talking to someone with such legendary research skills. I mean, who needs solid info when we’ve got your personal deep dive into the matter? I’m honestly just here asking questions and accidentally stepping in things I can’t smell—thanks for the heads up! I’ll make sure to quit while I’m ahead and let you continue being the undisputed expert in the room.

@shoot4fun2 Are you taking this personally because you feel that you don’t know what you’re talking about and I asked questions that you cannot or are uncomfortable trying to answer? The bottom line is I believe that you’re wrong. If in fact you are, there are consequences to publicly presenting false information regarding brands and products. The photo below comes from a Western Airguns gun. Similar information is published on dealer sites. There are regulations regarding this sort of labeling. So either you and your sources are wrong or Western Airguns is wrong. Either way, consequences come with being wrong here

well I guess our long respected member asked enough questions about proof to make it uncomfortable to continue..
I have always heard that Western Airguns was made in USA.. never seen one but now I've seen the picture. Huben is plainly easy to see made in China..
but as noted very high quality.
both are not just a common cheaply made gun..
@Ezana4CE .. I always read anything you post because I have found you do know what you are talking about..
thank you for the clarity 😊
I also have wondered why they are all so high..I have a machine shop of my own but there's no way I could make even part of it for the price..I guess it's all relative but I have actually been fortunate enough to get a chance to shoot a friend's GK1..
hopefully one day I'll be able to afford a well used one.. but unfortunately they are just out of my limited income.

That doesn’t prove anything.

@markhooper There is a thread I read through recently about prices and price increases on high-end airguns and if members though my they’re worth it. I don’t recall which forum I read that and got tired of looking for it. There was a somewhat interesting conversation on the topic. If I locate it I’ll PM you a link.

There's a lot of individual precision parts on the semi auto airgun, along with intricate assembly. That drives up manufacturing costs, and especially so when partially made in the USA. Just think about how few parts there are to a powder burner, relative to their cost...

I don't know why this type of topic comes up so much with American made brands and products, and not just with airguns either. Might I suggest googling the US legislation on the requirements for labeling USA made products and the like. The Western Rattler's are clearly labeled as Made in the USA because of their design and their assembly of both American and foreign made parts is within this rule. Yes, there are parts on there that are not made here, and could very well be made in the same factory that produces Huben's. (Now there's a rumor for the masses!) For their cost, which isn't exactly cheap, they are a nice evolution in the airgun world and We should support them.
