Used BOTH with great success and IMO the determining factor is IF or NOT you require the fitted scope on rifle to fit in a carry case being a storage or case used during a shoot
A BIG "Why For" I've always used ECCENTRIC or NAUTILUS profile wheels as they can be made compact with rotation to fit in cases as if the wheel is not even there.

A BIG round wheel .. magnetic mounting hub 100%

I prefer round mag wheels because I can remove them before putting the gun in case eliminating excess pressure on the parallax feature

JD Gardlands Tron wheels for me on my Sightrons and Harris on my Falcon, Both work great. It is personal preference but I do second Cavedweller about the pressure on the Parallax knob, especially when toting the rifle around in a soft case. Few cases are tall enough to allow enough room so that when the zipper is closed it doesn't impart undue pressure, this is the reason I tote my gun around in a soft compound bow case... it is funky but effective.

I've used both types, a removeable direct mount that has a slot/pin -dicator for re mounting precisely is usually the most stable longterm. Large fixed mounted side wheels are more problematic during storage and not many range bags accommodate a six inch round side wheel...so that's where those magnetic detach sidewheel really shine. The Nautilus or Comma shaped wheels can be a solution for that because they can be low profile when stowed. All that said, setting up a scope, with mounts, eye relief, height, proper moa droop can be quite challenging and then a custom sidewheel... and range bag or caddy.... yeah you have to like a challenge, but I guess that's why we love shooting. 😀
