Winter Projects Show em! & the progress on my P-Rod build

Here’s some of the stuff I did to mine. I did some internal valve work but it’s probably not needed to get to 18ish fpe for 24 shots.

I would start by matching all your ports from the valve output to the barrel. The barrel is already .125 so I’d suggest just drill your valve output hole and TP to match that. Just doing that would probably help a lot.
I’m also running a lightweight hammer and No gauge. I’m new to all this myself. Feel free to ask any questions or pm. I’ll share what I’ve learned so far. I should know more once it’s warm and I get more trigger time.

Good luck

What size is the valve port from the factory? I’m thinking that’s my issue.

.109 ish is the valve port output from factory. Would definitely help to open it and your TP to .125. A lot of guys have great luck with lighter hammer set ups to.

There’s some really good info buried in some of the older forums on tuning the marauder platforms. Also Bob sterne wrote some stuff that really helps understand it all. It’s all a balancing game to find the sweet spot. I’m trying to slowly learn it all myself. There’s some guys in here that are wizards at it.

Winter and an unheated workshop has kept most of my projects in the design stage.

Just finished the CAD files to rout out the AR15 grip blank for my HM1000x.

I'm also working on a swaging press and dies to make slugs. Been gathering materials and making some of the tooling to make the dies. These grinder and router jigs mount on the cross slide of the lathe and are used to reshape taps into tool bits to bore/ream the slug cavity in the die. Lots of options to make a press so I'm searching for the easiest, most practical approach at the moment.

I hope to be able to cobble together a swaging press that can be assembled from common materials, at a reasonable price, with minimum machining involved.

After seeing the videos of resourceful people making slugs with machines built with hand tools, from scrap metal, I'm incouraged that it can be done.

Cheers!

Looks good! I’ve always liked those guns and especially the stocks. Reminds me of an ol T/C. How’s it shoot and what kind of power?
I went with an Altaros external regulator set for 12fpe. Waiting for winter to loosen its grip to get outside. Shot at 30ft in my basement recently. Doesn’t seem be pellet picky 👍

Excellent rig and (being old perhaps) airguns are to practice with And learn skill -okay modding included but shootig skills- and .177 at "12fpe" teaches! Also so much fun. Always enjoyed shooting any FT class Roz wanted someone in, hunter/open/WFTF , fun. Like mini sniper somewhat also but only outdoors and 500sih fps.
Now I certainly haven't done the math but Hector may be correct saying "The challenge of a small projectile in the wind matches most anything you find out in reality. Consider that shooting a 0.177" pellet at 12 ft-lbs at 55 yards is the ballistic equivalent to shooting a 7.62X51 NATO service round (152 grs) at 350 yards. Same ToF, same drop from bore axis, same wind drift." I just know it is fun. After trying it a FT for a while-10 years- just for kicks one day I put a 6" target at 110yards w/winds 15+ and gusting with swirls in the Hollow thinking if I hit it at all that would be great. Paying great attention to wind I was shocked putting 3 2-2 1/2" 5 shots groups on that target. Many pellets not punching all the way through the card board backer. Realized my wind reading/doping was better than when I was 20.
Certainly all airguns are fun but .177 rules.Think I might try indoor 10m for the 1st time soon. Must be something to learn there also.

Well, this winter I've just finished building a bulk fill 2078 (.177)......

.....and recently started on a ground up build with a concealed cylinder (Co2 again) that should hopefully have the lines of a C/F rifle-

Nice work Jamie,
I modded a few AR2078/AR2079's, but converted them to a bottle gun w/regulator.

Nice 👍

Perfect tinkering guns with very little financial input required, this ugly duckling 79 came to me snapped in two, and I literally bodged the 'prosthetic' rear end together from leftovers in the workshop 😂

The regs in those paintball tanks are insane for the cost, this one will do a 5fps ES across the fill.....none of the higher end PCPs I've owned would match that......

Thanks i have to take notes or I forget everything. These dang mods are a never ending rabbit hole. Always a chasing a few fps or tighter numbers. I need to learn when to quit 🤣
Rob,
If there’s low hanging fruit to be picked the mods just have to be done.
I like the “Tinkering” part as much as reaping the rewards when shooting🙂.

Working on them is becoming one of my favorite parts. I think I’ll always have a project gun on the bench. Need to start thinking of the next gun haha. I have a 22xx with a shortened disco tube I’ll probably do next. I think Ray Charles worked on it. It was quite a mess when I got it 🤣. It’ll be fun
