HW/Weihrauch New Weihrauch day, finally.

Or really a couple of days ago. I was previously expecting a HW98, the older version with the black paint in the stippling, but due to unforeseen circumstances that didn't pan out.
So I turned to Krale once again, and in three days
the big brown truck rolled up.
It's not the one I wanted but it's growing on me already.😬
Out the box it had the heaviest trigger yet, and of course the horrid spring noise. The butt plate was also not lined up with the stock, could be from shipping getting banged around?

Anyway, first up was a barrel scrub, it was pretty nasty.

Next I pushed a pellet through to feel the barrel.
This is the best feeling barrel I've tried with the guns I've had. Snug at the breech, then not really any free bore all the way to the choke, which is a little longer than the others I've tried.

Out of 10 different pellets I've shot, they all felt pretty good going in, even the small JSB's.
Krale also sent me a 125 year anniversary hat, which I wasn't expecting, thanks.
Next I fixed the alignment issue with the butt plate and adjusted it to my liking.

Then I dug out my old Sightron SII bigsky 4-16X42 milldot and started the mounting process
to shoot and adjust for any droop or windage using the burris zee rings. Or actually before this I removed the trigger unit and adjusted it so it would be shootable, had way too much second stage and pull weight. This particular screw I could hardly turn, unlike the HW30, which was falling out..lol.

Now I was ready to do some testing. To my surprise the windage was dead on, but the elevation was about 4" low at 20 yards. I can also smell grease burning when firing.😂 I used the +20 and -20 insert in the rear ring, this brought the elevation up to 3/4" above POA, which is good enough. A few clicks down and it's on.
Top left corner of this target shows where the POA and POI is after the +20 install in the rear ring. And subsequent shots at the other dots and windage line after adjustment.

Here's a test target that day with several pellets,
there was some wind, but not too bad.

Today I tried some more pellet testing but the wind was howling today, so I never shot it past 20 yards, as of yet. Also velocities and SD, ES numbers.

So far I'm really digging this new HW98, even though it's horrid spring noise and grease burning. I will shoot it for a little while. But then It will be stripped to the last screw, pin and new guides, set back trigger blade and trigger polishing. I will probably use this factory spring for a while. May or may not o-ring seal or button the back of the piston, donno yet. It will get krytox lube though. This might be my new favorite rifle.

That's a great looking rifle. I like it better without the darkened stippling, fwiw. I need to get some of those QYS pellets to try. It seems that they work well in yours and others' Weihrauchs.
Yes, they shoot well in all my rifles. I was hoping the JSB's would shoot good because I have a lot of those not being used. From what I've seen so far the QYS and H&N are best.

You're making good consistent power. You have a little vertical stringing. It's likely the fresh breech seal holding it off lock up slightly. That'll diminish with use as it flattens and conforms to the space.
I didn't think about that. I was thinking maybe the barrel pivot tension needs snugging up.

I'd almost guarantee the breech seal is doing it. close the gun normally, put your left hand over the breech and pull the barrel up with your right hand and you'll feel the barrel close another smidgen

Hey bust,
Nice write up on a beautiful gun 🚀.
If the lack of black on the stippling bothers you ….. as it would me… 😗.
You can easily mask off the stock and hit he stippling with flat back paint.
No one would know but you ……

In the last two weeks I did complete tunes on (2) HW50S and a HW35E.
Nothing like a few good projects during the “dog days“ of Winter.
