Weihrauch beech stock maintenance

What was your method of stripping back, staining and refinish? Looks so much nicer than original. How has it lasted since?
To remove the finish use a paint and varnish remover. Preferably a thin one, not a paste. Clean remover with lacquer thinner. Let dry thoroughly. At least 24 hours. Stain to your liking. Finish can be an oil, lacquer or polyurethane. The oil finish is applied with a rag and will remove some stain so stain extra dark. Be patient. Let each coat dry thoroughly. Some polyurethane finishes need immediate re-coating (else the finish can wrinkle) to desired look. This post goes into more detail.

I cut and buffed my HW95n as it was already relatively smooth. If you were to just polish a stock you would see all the deviation in the finish, small runs, sanding marks etc. Cutting the finish only removes a small layer until it is flat as a piece of glass.

i start with 600 wet paper for cutting and 2000 for polishing followed with 3M polish and car wax To finish. I use an old Beeman Silicone Cloth, or Balistal, for after shooting clean up.

Replace the flathead screw with hexheads. You'll never go back!
Agreed. My R10 has the Beeman installed blued screw cups with the hex heads and looks really good. My RX1 and R1 has the Mac 1 screw cups w/hex heads that IMO are even better as they completely eliminate any part of the screw threads making contact with the wood. I believe these are more or less mandatory on these higher cocking effort guns that put a lot of stress on this area. Eliminates any chance of wear on this area of the stock. Plus the screws seem to be much less susceptible to loosening (in addition to looking better IMO)
