FX Old FX Royale 400 still holds its own

I love how the simple old FX guns just keep shooting well, and looking good while they do it!
This old Smooth Twist, un regulated Royale 400 with its clunky old steel bottle will average half inch 50m groups all day, everyday.
After a new pressure gauge, and replacing a few seals I thought I'd put it over the chrony.
Averaging 890 fps with 18gn JSB's, ES of 18 and SD of 3.9, I'm happy with that for an unregulated gun.

Not many free spots left on the target after sighting in some thermal scoped rimfires, but you can see the Royale groups marked.
Some good and some average groups there, but overall I'm happy with that for a hunter at 50m.
Apologies for the messy workspace, but it's what happens when you squeeze play in between work I guess. :)

I own the sibling, Bobcat MK2, bought it used for what turned out to be a good price. All of the orings were old and might as well have been plastic. Everything was easy until I got to the regulator. Threw money at that problem, Huma Air to the rescue.

What a great shooter. 45 yards 1/4 - 1/2 groups. Have a few others shoot like that, Evanix Sniper X2 and my pair of 20+ year old British rifles FN19 and Tiger 10.

I have a Royale 400 in .22. Yesterday, having not shot the Royale in several months, I put a bottle cap on my target tree in the yard, a dead pine that is 31 yards from where I sit on my deck step and use a shooting stick. I took a shot and the cap didn't move, odd result from one of my favorite rifles. I shot again, same result. Then I walked over and looked at the cap. Both shots hit dead center, which is why the cap didn't fly off the tree. I believe the Royale design is one of the best from any maker. I can rely on it to shoot where I aim without fail. I don't like the trigger design, but I can't say that it hinders performance. I'm sure the profit margin pales in comparison to the gadgetry offered on most of the newer FX rifles, maybe a good business model, but nothing of interest to me. I don't know how much longer they will make these original smooth twist barrel rifles, but I will hang on to mine.

Exactly, the 3 siblings may be the best ever made.

And I agree, the newer, much more expensive, rifles with all their geegaws and floss do absolutely nothing for me.

I've only been able to find a Boss for sale new, it is on Krale. I tried to buy it, but Krale cannot sell FX to the US. Even though there are none of the 3 siblings for sale here.

Now I'm in a quandary, $1699 is really too much, but it is a Boss .30.

I have a Reximex Throne 2 coming and someday, if they ever get off the ship, a Snowpeak Max 1.

Yes, I want it but I'll have to get rid of 2 to 4 of my current collection. Couple were going to have to go.

I don't know your age, but if you amortize the cost of that Boss over your remaining shooting years, you might decide that it's a bargain. Yeah, we all pay too much for our hobbies. But, you could be spending as much on golf and have nothing to show for it except a bad back! (my situation with tennis and shoulder)

A shattered wrist 47 or so years ago ended any golfing future. Wrists dont appreciate dropping 220lbs on them. Was free on a fast break, got up in the air for the dunk, guy cut my legs out from under me, arm hit the backboard, rotated head down, everything dropped on my left wrist. Took 3 other players to stop me from killing that little bastige...

I'm 69 but I can afford it, I just have an aversion to paying that much or more for a pellet gun I'll shoot at paper, mostly, in my backyard. For the .30 the occasional raccoon.
