Skout Blown HP Evo reg.

Well darn.

I was going to up the pressure to 1800 shoot .25 slugs for test the other day and air started hissing out of the HP reg. I'd shoot it and it would stop for maybe half a second and than start hissing again., Couldn't make it stop so depressurized the gun and pulled out the reg. I found a shredded o-ring in the, (what I call poppet cap), or the MFE103. There's an internal o-ring in there, the SK-OU9009. I removed it and it looks like an X-ring or what they call a quad ring. Measures 9.08mm. Looking in my Skout supplied o-ring box and there's nothing in there to replace. UGH! of course not; got every o-ring BUT that one. Only thing close is a standard ring measuring 9.65mm and I can't make it fit. No one locally seems to have one of them critters.
Skout maintenance dept. isn't answering email or phone calls. I'll try again first thing in the morning. Man, the weather is turning nice and I got nothing to shoot with.
Sorry, just frustrated. Been chasing a leak in an Impact all day and I can't find it. So I think it's time for a beer and a chill...I'm frazzled.

Guess the question is...is it really an X-ring in that spot? I have replace all the external white orings with Black Buna N90's

that one is terrible to remove, and just slightly easier to install
The x-rings are newer to the hp regs..just a few months ..a n70 will work until you get another x
but when you go to remove it...you have to almost destroy it to get it out..it's location is challenging

You can replace SK-OU9009 with a -009 Buna N X ring 70 duro, or a -009 Buna N 90 duro o-ring. Either will work. The X ring is softer so easier to install. Also, the -003 oring Buna N 90 duro in MFE107 (internal) also is critical. And while apart, I'd replace the -012 Buna N duro 90 on MFE104 valve seat outer.

SKOUT sent me an upgrade brass part that replaces the filter in the reg. Keith of SKOUT said that imperfections in the filter was messing up the oring in the MKE-103.
Same here.
A bit infuriating, along with having to learn a trick to get the barrel out, and the front pin/screw in the cocking arm got stuck so I had to take the upper frame off the lower frame to change the lever from right side cocking to the left side.

Not a good start!

But, the trigger is fantastic for a E trigger, nice high cap mags, it's heavy which I wanted, and a smooth firing impulse, and the ergonomics fit me well. What little I shot it it was decently precise with Altaros slugs. Basically 1" at 72y with 40's and 32.3gr.

I hope this gun works out?! I don't like wasting time and worse money.

The thing about Skout is, they will bend over backwards to help you and send out free parts and handle shipping etc...I get them the next day. I don't remember FX doing that back in the day. Of course we worked through the US distributor at that time, not naming names.
Parts should be on the way.

Even though I'm not particularly handy the Skout videos should help to do any work on the EVO that I could need which is what I intend to do.
I really hate sending guns off for repair is why.

I love that Skout has videos of all the maintenace you need to perform on your rifle

What was the barrel trick for removal? was it move the lever to the top, then down 2 clicks?

Yes exactly, in both ways.

It doesn't seem like a super complicated gun, at least not when having access to the videos. I learn much better audibly and visually from videos rather than though book instructions. Once I've done some work on one aspect I'm good from there on out.

I've had 5 or 6 HP regs apart numerous times, and I've never seen a filter. Which part number is that? Also, I've removed and inserted barrels in both the Epoch and Evo, and never had any issues whatsoever...???
I received a Complete ( Red anodized ) HP reg last year that utilized a sintered bronze filter within the nose cap. My other two utilize a basket design on the same nose cap.

So what ya got in yours ?

The replacement nose cap with the Quad / X ring is w/o the basket and works over the sintered bronze filter ... FYI
I always thought of that as a “spacer” and not a filter. All five of mine have that sintered metal spacer. Skout just came out with a brass piece to replace the sintered metal piece. BZ to Skout!

Yeah that 1st gen Impact was stupid!!!

One would think the EVO, a supposed improved 2nd gen, would be better. I got beta tested anyway even though I waited.
I feel your pain. I really liked my Epoch and didn’t have issues. Got the Evo and had constant HP reg issues. Skout was very responsive, but several part replacements later and it still never improved. They eventually paid to have it returned and sent back.
I have never wanted to like a rifle more than this one, but as you said, it is frustrating. I gave up. Unfortunately, I can’t find anything I want and trust to spend that much money again. Not sure where I am going next.

I'm sorry to find this out. I was hoping to use my EVO in a match on Saturday and maybe might still if mine will hold air after I put the replacement parts in this morning. If that goes well I'll start working on my dope for Saturday. If not,???!!!!!.
