Shot placement not including any head shots. Since this guy is using a high power PB, I would guess with an air rifle use at least a .30 for these body shots.

i Have shot and killed 19 coyotes with 21coyotes with pcp airguns , 8 being a 30 caliber 1 a 257 caliber 1 25 caliber and 10 with ,22 calibers , only one ran off which was with a 30 cal hollow point slug with a head shot , This was only yote I shot with a head shot with a , air rifle ,
I have shot all my coyotes in 22 caliber with a edgun R5m using my favorite slug for yotes in ,22 cal , 34 grain MP solid slug.
I just got 2 yotes with a Rattler using a 88 grains slug I swaged with my GMI press , that one was about 140fpe ,they didnt move once hit , with 22 calibers I have cleanly killed all of them with heart shots however I found with 22 pcp they do run 40 yrds or so and when skinning the slugs all blew out hearts , Shot placement is critical especially with ,22 pcp I am using 70fpe but in 22 cal my max shot is 60ish yards but with my new rattler I would shoot out to 150ish , but the 30 cals I have taken they fall over with the 30 from concussion . I use 22 cal in my state , only 22 legal , or Id love to use big bores or my 6,5 creedmore or my 22-250 . but i am taling all my yotes in my yard , their is soo many since building of subdivisions

Lou you are a great shot. I've seen yotes in my backyard 4 times. I don't have the skills nor confidence to hit the heart on a yote given all the fur and less than ideal lighting, surly can't have one run 40 yards off my property, so I give them a pass hoping they keep the rat population down. If I ever see more than one at a time at night or even one during the daytime my refrain from launching some lead may wane. My most powerful air gun is an R5M shooting 34g JSBs at 900 fps. I would have to go for a brain shot, but they rarely keep their heads still.

I think the yellow indicates the lounges here, or these have a lot bigger hearts than i would assume.

The heart area on that coyote would be represented by the lowest portion of the yellow toward the front leg.
HOWEVER…. what’s not shown on that target are where the humerus and scapula are. As that coyote stands, the heart would be entirely covered by the scapula and a portion of the humerus (upper leg) bone. With a higher powered rifle, this is not an issue…. but with a pellet rifle, those two bones can create some problems.
Having killed hundreds of coyotes in my life, I’m routinely impressed with their toughness and tenacity. Even with my .30 Uragan I’d be looking for CNS shots, unless I could get a nice quartering away shot where odds of impacting anything but a rib are minimal
