Events Southwest Airgunners Duncan FT and silhouette matches in Duncan, AZ on 03/29/25 and 05/03/25

Rex and Tom are hosting matches the weekends of 3/29 and 5/03 on Tom's beautiful riverbottom property in Duncan, AZ.

These are more than just a Saturday morning field target match, but rather a multi-day, multi-event weekend of airguns.
For the March match, current plans are to have:
  • a silhouette match on Friday late afternoon, using sub12fpe field target pistols and your field target position. From memory, it seems like we did, 15, 20, 25, and 30 yards last time we did this pistol silhouette match, using the small little 10yard silhouette animals
  • a silhouette match on Friday after dark, (targets will have lights on them) using sub 20fpe field target rifles and your field target position. In the past we set banks of silhouettes at either 40, 50, 60, 70 or 50, 60, 70, 80 yards. Shooting at little chickens at 80 yards with 19fpe is a fun challenge. I wanna say the animals used here are 1/5 scale silhouettes, chickens are about the size of a 50 cent piece.
  • a field target match on Saturday morning, probably a 930-10am start time. In the most recent matches we've had 10 lanes with 3 targets on each lane, for a 60 shot match (two shots at each target). This is an AAFTA-style match, meaning that that AAFTA rules will be followed, with the exception that occasionally we see a target harder than allowed by AAFTA.

Property owner Tom says he's cooking breakfast for everybody before the match on Saturday morning.

Camping is allowed there at the match site-plan for a boondocking situation. In the past they've had a portapotty brought in, but I can't guarantee that that's the plan for these upcoming matches.

Tons of pictures in this link from a past match report....just to give an idea of what to expect.... https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/southwest-airgunners-duncan-az-11-04-2023-match-report.1300356/

Rex and gang set one of the most interesting field target courses around, taking full advantage of the various unique characteristics of the river bottom. There have been targets up in trees, on swaying limbs, above shooter height, below shooter height. etc. And plan on shooting in various directions throughout the match, Rex is big on making sure that the angle changes on each lane so you can't quite figure out the standard holdoff to account for the predominant wind. It's a great time, challenging course, and offers excellent practice since it's usually harder than a match on the Grand Prix circuit.

Open invite to any and all that are interested. These Duncan matches are an opportunity to compete with an airgun in what was otherwise a competition desert prior.

Feel free to comment here or PM me with any questions.

The address to the property is: 1129 Stevens Loop, Duncan, Arizona.

I think one of the biggest reasons these matches are loved by so many is because they are not put on by an organization or governed by a sanctioning body with all that comes with both (i.e GP's). Currently you would be hard pressed to find more parking for a larger crowd and facilities. It is just a bunch of good old boys and gals that love shooting and talking airguns with few rules and love to camp and boondock! AND, the courses are generally more on the difficult side to appease all of the long in tooth shooters! A shorter drive from Phx would be nice but by no means a deal breaker! We love the Duncan boys and enjoy their efforts and hospitality immensely!!!!
Thx

Cole is correct! Many of us bring multiple rifles and some camp for 4-5 days. I am undecided if I can make this shoot, but if I do, I always have 5 or 6 rifles along to plink a BUNCH! Everyone is always willing to share or loan! Watching is indeed fun but not nearly as much fun as shooing the match! You cant beat the caliber of people that put on the event and there is such beautiful country all over near Duncan and up the trail thru Morenci. The mine in Morenci is alone worth the trip to drive by. Beautiful drive up over the mountains to the Mule Creek area in NM too!
Thx
