The fwb 124 are all old guns now, the seals crumbled and need replacing. When in this process new piston seals, new breech seal , spring and spring guide etc.. Not unhappy with stock performance but while going through the installation would like to improve for best results. Reading here many have been down this road, looking for advice.

Since my first 124 purchased new in the early 1970s, I've (to date) owned six more; three of them with Maccari springs. And although I've owned (and still own) springers with Vortek kits, no 124s with Vortek.

The Maccari spring and piston-seal in my current 124 was installed by (Airgunwerks) Dave Slade, and is the hottest-shooting 124 I've had. Despite my somewhat wide experience with both aftermarket spring options on multiple springers, I won't recommend one over the other.

Here are the chronograph results of my (current) Maccari sprung 124-

8.4 grain FX ~50 shots since Dave Slade Maccari installation, 15 shots- Low= 842, Hi= 857, ES= 15, SD= 4.5, Average= 849 FPS/13.5 FPE

Happy Shooting,
Ron

Holy Moly, pretty hot for such a mild mannered springer. I should give Dave a call. When I got one sometime ago the seal was crumbs. I put ARH spring, seal and think it could be better. I feel this is best left to the professional.

Maccari all the way This is the second I've installed

That picture is what I think I'll find upon disassembly. Does not surprise me as my original 124 went probably 13 years ago, then sat in rack. I'm an old guy so not familiar with new fangled tech like you tube, found it and now learning alot about these airguns. Unfortunately while looking for a replacement stock for cracked BSA stock on e bay I now have 5 more air rifles. I am in 1st step admitting I have a problem. Those Beeman catalogs from early 80s still haunt me, lm buying ghosts of airguns past. Oh yeah enjoying getting and shooting now. Hope it warms up soon for backyard shoots. Thank everyone for input.
