Taipan The Saharan Mutant

So I have been a fan of tan guns for many years. In fact my first PCP, my .22 Synrod I painted the stock tan way back when. Have always wanted to do it again but never have. Many many airguns through my hands and never did get another tan one. One I have always liked the looks of since I first saw it is the BRK Sahara XR. Tan stock with a tan shroud just looked really good to me. However having owned a Bantam before it just never really fit me well and wasn't a fan of the trigger. So never did try one.

Decided now was the time to do it myself. Thought about my Taipan Long but with the laminate stock I'm not sure I can paint over it. But when the little Mutant came into my hands I knew it was the perfect gun to do. I got a can of Rustoleum Camo paint in Khaki for the color. Took some coarse grit sand paper to the stock and fine grit to the shroud. After cleaning them up went to spraying. I got a good 10+ coats on both the shroud and stock. It turned out really well and will see how it is Sunday morning once it's fully dry. And yes i did do the butt pad but will be cleaning the paint off it. Was out of painters tape.

Looks good, are you going to put any type of matte clear over it to keep dirt out of it and prevent wear? Or just let it ride as is and redo when necessary?
Originally planned on just let it ride and redo as necessary but might do a clear matte coat on it. I might have an extra can somewhere. If not wouldn't hurt to just touch up as necessary. Just a truck gun so I'm sure it'll get scratched up some.

Though factory done on my Brocock Sahara, yeah, the color is growing on me too.
After going through a "shortening" operation, I repainted the shroud, and Huma M30 muffler, and the cheek rest. Since the picture, I also painted the small piece in front of the cheek rest too.
Been wondering about giving the air cylinder a coat also .

Actually have several others in BEIGE SAND color ...
My TX-200 in a custom stock ..
My ( Sold now ) BSA custom FT pistol.

A Very cool and comfortable color to handle on a bright sunny / warm day.
Rustoleum used is a TEXTURED paint finish so very good non slip grip.

I absolutely agree with and understand why DILLON chose to go this route ;) (y)(y)

Nice. About a decade ago I build a 10/22 for CMP Sporter. I put a Green Mountain stainless barrel on it. I didn’t like the stainless look. I used the same paint as you, the whole thing except the receiver was tan, that was a Brownells I kept black. It was a good looking rifle.
Besides that rifle the closest thing I have now is my limited edition desert storm camo S200 😂 Maybe I need to get the can of paint out and finish the look.

Some cool looking guns I like them! Glad to see others who have done the same!
this is interesting. and let me state, this is not in any way a judgement, but i am really curious what the appeal to this color is? what are the associations?
I'm not entirely sure why honestly but have always been drawn to it. Lots of guys like beautiful walnut and laminate stocks while I prefer a tan look. I think it gives it a softer look than just a solid black gun or something and where i shoot more blends into the surrounding. Also in the sun is much cooler. Have a Tikka T1X with a KRG Bravo FDE stock which I love too.
It feel it needs something else, something exciting and different because it's kinda bland;). Hmm I know just the thing, how about letting your daughter bedazzle it for the bling factor! JK:p
Lol my 2 daughters are in a stage of coloring and painting and putting stickers on everything so I'm sure they'd love that.

I got it together tonight and think it looks really nice. I have a DFL LDC adapter coming which I'll leave black along with a Pugio I'll swap between this gun and my Long. It should look nice all together.View attachment 551273
That is A+ looking for sure. I know that taipan ups the power game over the XR.
