Evanix Evanix Rex .357 is a fun one!

Any other evanix Rex fans out there? This .357 I got second hand from a listing here, have not shot it a ton but i see it as a rock solid, powerful utility airgun along the lines of airforce guns. I love the underlever cocking mechanism in spite of all the play.

I'm sure there are lots of reasons why this is not the best air gun in the world but I sure do enjoy the heck out of shooting this thing. I was shooting ballisticproducts .360 roundball at a gong and suspended steel cans - been over a year since I shot it but I was still connecting with everything which was a nice surprise.

I modified the gun to make the shroud active - contoured "reflex" insert and it has a huge volume so this gun is not crazy loud even without a moderator. I like the very streamlined aesthetic and simple single shot mechanism and in-line cylinder. Two power levels which is nice, and it has a curve if I top it off - seems to peak at 200 bar, and fills to 250. I need to check that with a chronograph, but based on the feel of shooting - it felt like power was slowy building over the first 4-5 shots. Speaking of power, it's just crazy to be hitting things this hard with an airgun this quiet. I'm back in the small town where I got my first pump master 760 at the local flea market, (which 35 45 years later still happens every Sunday, never see airguns these days though) - I would have lost my mind if i had seen something like this. It's probably just as well that I can't go back and give one of these to my 12 year old self, but on some level I wish I could.

Evanix gets very little love around here but they do make some good big bore. Neighbor of my brother has one of the older 9mm. Shoots river rats on the other side if the river, ~60 yards, not a lot of rat left.

My Sniper X2 is a very accurate .30. Need to take it up there next time I visit.
Nice day today so I was out there with the 357 Rex popping steel cans. Man the trigger on this thing you would never call light. I don't really care I can adjust and it is fun to shoot. Surprisingly it does not have the old "Korean cliff tune", but a curve when filling to 250. Power climbs and by the time the pressure is at 200 it is really thumping. I love launching roundball with this gun - very inexpensive big bore plinking.

This .357 Rex pistol was a real hand cannon.
Power ranged from ~100fpe down to about 70fpe over 3 to 4 shots, depending on pellet weight.

The main drawback was the slow single-shot loading. The mechanism itself cycled very smoothly, though, and it was easy to load the large .357 pellets.

The small, unregulated air tube was only good for about 4 shots. But it kept the Rex sort of 'pistol sized' for single hand use.

It was impressively sturdy and very loud due to the short barrel.

Now, if they could just add a pellet magazine and have the cocking handle cycle the action to load a pellet, and then add a regulator, and .. and ...

That eternal hunt for upgrades by some of us is why many manufacturers feel pressured to keep offering upgrades and then rush new products to market every year. Some people, often me, are ready to jump on the newest version of a product in their hobby/passion of interest at the time. Partly just to check out the promised advancements, some want to share their results and impressions, and maybe there's a small bit of bragging rights involved. Airgun tech is finally developing quickly as we get inexpensive 5000 psi portable compressors and electronic fire-by-wire controls. But 100 years from now, I expect that a Rex pistol like this will still be working. Not as sure about the longevity of some of the more complex models coming out now.
