I pulled out the Ranger yesterday, yanked off the light and pressure pad, and spent a little time with it.

In this form, it is fine. When I shoot in a field position, I want a good grip with my support hand (left) pulling the gun into my shoulder, so my trigger hand can be relaxed for a smooth trigger pull. I couldn’t find a good place for the pressure pad on this setup that let me do that. Without the pad or anything else to try to manipulate, I can grab the rail under the tank, positioning my thumb on the front of the rail, pull the gun snug to my shoulder, and it feels gravy (gravy is good, for the Zoomers and Boomers in the forum)

While I remembered the gun being unpleasant and unwieldy, I think it was poorly positioned accessories that were problematic. So the Ranger itself is not on the chopping block. Sorry @L.Leon it is not for sale for a good price… not yet at least.

Time to do some research on night vision scopes.

No guru here…🙈 The Pathfinder is but a mini Commander, if you take a closer look you will see its undeniable. Same form factor in a smaller package. Similar to the Atomic/Rangers being but smaller Concept XRs. That said, I really love my Pathfinder for what you are describing above and its how I use mine… Just don’t plop a huge scope on it…

I was looking a little closer at Pathfinders, I assumed it was just a Ranger with a HP bottle, adjustable reg. and a barrel shroud. But it seems it actually has a 10" barrel, while the Ranger/Atomic have a 12" barrel. Interesting they chose to go shorter. I am guessing the shroud is 12" with an air stripper inside, so it helps with noise reduction. Looks very cool, I wonder how much juice it could get behind an 18 grain pellet if the reg. and hammer spring were turned up for putting squirrels in the crock pot.

So many tools/toys... I have been trying to find info about what is different between the Sahara and the regular Sniper XR, other than paint. I have found quotes that there are performance differences, but nothing specific.

The adjustable reg for dialing down the power during bird nesting season and then back up for squirrel season does make the Pathfinder look just about right... I see how it is, you aren't the BRK guru, you moonlight as a BRK salesman.

My folding stock adaptor on the Ranger allows the stock to twists a millimeter or two: just a slight rotation. Does yours also do this?

The guns sell themselves, I am but one voice, that said, check out my Atomic XR. Kneeling at 54 yards, just for fun of course, UTG Red dot atop sending CPHPs…

I dug around in my box-o-gun stuff and found this 90 degree sling attachment that I bought years ago for something or other.

Makes the Ranger easy to have across my chest at the ready, while leaving both hands free if needed for tasks, such as opening the barn door quietly.

I found a used Zulus 3-12 for sale in the classifieds here which I probably will have next week. Roosting pest birds beware.

Also quite good news: the barn is finally finished being sided, including new doors, and it is much easier to get into the upper area, where I can now have a wind free 25 yards for shooting airguns. Will be excellent for sighting in the new NV optic.

@L.Leon Do you notice a little rotation in the BRK folding stock adaptor? Mine rotates just a little bit. I originally though it was my stock on the buffer tube, and there was a little play there, but I fixed that and there is still a little movement, and see it is in the lockup point of the folder.

I don't notice that movement when I am shouldering the gun, hard to say if it would affect accuracy.

@puddleglum - You could be like @L.Leon and get a Ghost and if you really wanted to use it for some larger game outside, you could get another barrel. I have a Ghost in .30 and converting it to .177 for "indoor shooting" is a consideration.
No way, those Ghosts are so ugly. And way too heavy. And I hear they smell funny to.

Not tempted at all... nope not even a little. Never mind my Youtube history of Ghost review videos. Not tempted even a little...

There is a little play in the folding adapter, a small wooden shim fixed it for me… I use mine both with and without the shim. Same practical accuracy for me…

According to tracking, I should be getting a 3-12 Zulus for the Ranger on Saturday. I might take it to the indoor range I have a membership at and get a feel for how it shoots without any wind. Being able to just punch in different ranges will make it pretty quick and easy to determine the pellet path out to 25 yards. Also will be nice to be indoors, as the weather here has not yet heard it is spring.
