Opinions and Observations

Budget and not so budget guns garner attention - and deservedly so, for providing decent shooting ability while remaining fiscally sound. Now, for my airgun curiousity, what are the smoothest operating, great accuracy, not to loud options for PCP rifle in the 600-900 dollar range? If you have owned your suggestion, that feedback would be awesome. Now I have heard good things about air venturi avenge x along with macavity arms. But honestly, Is there operation anywhere near as smooth as say, a Daystate huntsman or a BSA? I mean, there is a reason Teir 1 stuff pulls the money they do. I'm not naive enough to believe a 500 dollar gun can compete with a 1600 dollar gun in the operating feels and performance. That's too big an ask. BSA runs in the middle price range as does daystate huntsman regal. What do you know of that matches up to those? All the big names are priced out obviously. So, what can you think of?

Used HW100 very quiet, used FX Crown w/FX moderator my .22 Crown w/380mm barrel is very quiet.
You can get a brand new BSA R10 SE .22 for 799 from AOA and mine is also very quiet, not HW100 quiet but back yard quiet. The R10 will pretty much hang with most guns in the accuracy department, its a bolt gun but the bolt slicks up after use and is actually faster to operate then a side lever.

That's a tough one rangur! The more expensive PCP's cost more I believe because of the metals (machined billets) etc, parts, machining, barrels, trigger assemblies, tolerances, R&D...it would be quite a feat to match that in a sub $1000 platform in my humble estimation, but I could be wrong as usual....😂. Like our Taipan Vets, built like vaults with platforms machined from solid billets!

@rangur1 Are we talking new out of the box within that price range or are we also including used airguns? I’m asking for clarity’s sake. I’m interested in the potential responses. I’ve honestly not purchased anything within that price range after tax and shipping that was new, so I don’t know. I have purchased a used gun that was in that price range and can compete with those listed.

there are so many excellent buys right now in the used market that I wish I was starting now, instead of farther along. Here's a few.
Brk Bantam Sniper HR... these are stellar rifles that will amaze you and can be had for less than $1k
FX Royale....one of the best airguns ever built, that shoot as good as anything out there today, and less than $1k
FX Impact MK2...can be had for less than $1k if you look
FX Dreamline... one fine gun, the standard model can be had fairly cheap and customized to your hearts delight
Kalibrgun Cricket Carbine....Fantastic gun that just doesn't sell well on the used market, but outshoots lots of new gun.
Taipan Veteran....if you like bullpups, here's another that doesn't sell well on the used market and shoots fantastic.

There's lots more. Just watch the classifieds, airguns are just not selling well and the used market is wide open. If you buying, you're in the driver's seat but it could end very quickly and very soon.

Well, it is an open assessment. I was indicating new, out of the box. But one can’t dismiss a 1200-1400 model acquired used. But my knowledge in the 500-1000 price range is minimal. That’s the reason for my inquiry.

@rangur1 Well @bchannell beat me to my suggestion with a used Brocock Bantam Sniper HR. One of my best airgun purchases. I’ve had it for 3-4 years.

Too Many Variables To Be Answered !!! IMHO ;):p
Dude, save it! lol! I’m sure you can come up with a few that may fit the bill. After all, this is a fact finding thread.
What are the parameters in which we are confined to operate to make this conclusion ????======Editted here because of misspelling I made lol=====

To keep it simple for my own personal lack of communication skills a few question I would think are pertinent .

1= Is the used market off limits ? ( Is the used market of limits in this fact finding quest ? )
2= The most common questions come into play like what is your intended use ( Around the house pesting and plinking , competition level field target or benchrest , or other factors to consider lol .
3= what is the range in which you hope to use it and what are your personal definition of said ranges . Close = ???? , Medium = ???? , Far = ???? . All of these play an enormous difference In the end result of whether it can be done for less money than the upper tier choices to Me .
4= Last and definitely not least the question of what is your personal skill level in which we are operating on in this endeavor ??????? EXAMPLES == Are your a highly skilled tuner and/0r can easily execute modifications to said pcp like some of our valued members here motorhead Scott , Derick Wall , Troy , Nervous , and on and on and on . Or are you someone who sends it in to a dealer for repair of a simple oring fix or a leaking gauge .

To M these are important things to know before a random generalized answer can be put forth . Hence the whole reason I stated to many variables to be answered . IMHO

A few and I do mean a few quick and short examples might be as follows

Can I personally make a notos for 250.00 shoot in a very competitive manner against a brocock ranger for a 1000.00 at short range pesting scenarios on mice and small fowl . The answer for me is yes all day long no questions ask !

If the used market applies to your quest or question then can i make your used .25 cal green taipan for less than 800.00 be on a very competitive level of performance , build quality and accuracy with my grs Crown that I paid 2000.00 for new ????? Yes all day long and for an enormous SAVINGS .

So to sum it up yes I personally believe within My personal Parameters and restrictions feel it is very easy to achieve the goal of beating out a top tier or tier 1 level pcp for a ton of savings at a much lower cost . IMHO
Now if you ask a major competitive level long range bench rest shooter this same question I would assume ( and I could be wrong ) the answer to be a Big Fat NO for most/or majority of them but then again there are a few exceptions as always.

I hope this in no way offends you as that is not my intention in any means . I would prefer to deal /buy/trade with you /rangur1 over more than 3/4 of all the people I have ever met here on these forums . I hope this helps in explaining why I said what I did above . Am I missing something I am an old Fart and that is a Fact kind Sir . :ROFLMAO::giggle:

Some key info that was added while I was typing that I did not have prior to my answer lol Sorry about that .

Glad you included & highly praised the Royale. Aside from being one of the best pellet guns ever, if you buy one USED it's not very likely that previous owners have futzed with the internals. When buying a more complicated & adjustable gun (like the Impact) you can probably bet that it's been messed with. Royale owners know they don't have to do anything to get peak accuracy from the JSB pellets they were designed around!

The only gun I’ve ever shot that could have fooled me into believing it was a $1k gun was a JTS Airacuda Max. If I had no clue what it was and he would have said it was a base model from one of the upper tier manufacturers, I would have believed him. All the other guns I’ve owned or shot that are in the $300-$700 range cant fool me. I know how they feel, sound and I know how some of them just smell. Funny but true.

I’ve got one of the guns you mentioned, the huntsman.
To start the Zelos for around $450 new may be equaled ( doubt ) but can’t be beaten
