Custom Painting your beloved Airgun

I came up with post because of all the beautiful custom paint work I have seen on this Nation. Paint , prep.
Everything. I recently seen some beautiful work on the Post Zelos pics here thread. I want to do same nice stuff , but no way is that being done with Wally World rattle cans. How is it done some of those look like Ferrari's.
Thanks for any advice OldVet wants to know.

Catalyzed gunkote or similar firearms paint is easy enough to do, and if you don't have to bake it it's all for the better. One of the ones I'm most proud of is wally world rattle cans but it's mostly stock paint.

I cannot understate what Loren said. Prep prep and more prep. Paint is the ez part. Clear and buffing (if desired) is ez. I spent a year learning with the guy that painted my project truck, there's no secrets. Just prep, keeping a wet edge, and don't be agressive with sanding or polishing. I have more painted guns with gloss or more intricate masking but they're not for agn. My first pcp was that mrod 25 and the pine straw camo came out good. The air tube is gunkote coyote tan now. That's all walmart camo rattle cans, no airbrush.

This is only to show what can be done with basic rattle cans. I can't find the 2 tone gunkote bake on paint I did a pistol with but that's fine it's gloss black and gloss "Texas tea" . This is rattle cans and a cricket vinyl cutter on beech. It can be done on metal all the same but degreasing with acetone is a must and fine wet sanding with a block doesn't hurt in some situations.

I'm a carpenter so messing with the wood is easily fixable(metal is not terrible, I have blast cabinet) . The pistol had to be glass bead blasted after the first paint job and re done to remove flaws. The really nice hotrod car paint jobs on bench guns are things to marvel at, i just don't have anything worth the effort yet.

Have any of you guys ever used the SprayMax 2k paint where it has a hardener built in that sets solid in the can of you don't use it all cost $30 a can , but will resist gas , oil , scratches ect. I've never used it , but they do have a clear coat. SprayMax 2K clear glamour. You can use it over any paint , and it make it super glossy , and hard as a auto finish.

I’ve used it quite a bit on my race bikes and a couple of street bikes. Excellent stuff. I was clearcoating with a gun.
Started learning painting after crashing and not liking my fellow racers rattle can or just primer grey bikes. Crashing and breaking bones and fixing bikes is time consuming. When I learned of the spray max I went right to.
I just bought a can for a couple gun projects I have in mind .
