Taipan 25 Caliber Taipan Vet 2 Standard

Hello, forum newbie here. I’ve been lurking here for a few years, since picking up a modified Benjamin Discovery in 22 caliber from a friend.

I’ve really enjoyed the freedom of using the disco for target shooting and pest control in the yard. For the last year or so I’ve been thinking of picking up another PCP. I recently sold a short range benchrest rifle that I wasn’t using much and dove down the rabbit hole of researching higher performance PCPs. My choices came down to a Huntsman Revere in 22 vs a Taipan Veteran. Two completely different styles, but they both had something that I was looking for in a rifle.

Many of you unknowingly steered be toward choosing the Taipan Veteran 2 Standard in 25 caliber. I felt like it checked the most boxes for me in how I will most use the rifle. On Monday I placed my order with Tony at Talon Tunes. Yesterday I received my shipping confirmation and tracking info and to say that I’m excited to get my hands on it would be a major understatement….lol.

I look forward to sharing my journey here on the forum.

I received my delivery from Talon Airguns yesterday and boy am I happy! I had asked Tony to tune it with 25.3 Gr JSBs, because that looked like the best value in a good performing pellet. The test target and shot string that he sent was very impressive to me. I mounted up an extra scope thst I had laying around and in the process of getting a quick 25 yard zero, I realized that the scope I had mounted wouldn’t focus below 50 yards. I shot it at 45 yards a few times and then moved to 65 yards, which was as close as I could get a good clear sight picture. The wind was pretty gusty, so I shot a few times to get on target and waited for the wind to calm down, which it never did. Finally, right before dark I shot a few five shot groups that measured right at 1” center to center.

I checked my scope stash and it looks like the only scope I own that focuses down to 20 yards is the Vortex Golden Eagle that’s on my 600 yard benchrest rifle. I don’t want to move that one around, so it looks like I’m scope shopping now.

It’s hard to beat the veteran guns for good overall performance.

That’s the exact reason that I chose the Veteran. I was prepared to spend more if necessary, but the lack of negative reviews swayed me in this direction. It’s little heavier that I wanted, but the balance allows it to handle like it’s much lighter. Now, if the wind wasn’t blowing 25 mph……lol

Congrats! Beautiful stock! Enjoy shooting it especially when you get a shorter parallax minimum scope for it!

Depending on how far you intend to shoot. I’d be looking at a 10x prism scope with parallax adjustment. Real compact and should fit real well on a bullpup.

Thank you. I’ll check it out.

I see you just recently joined AGN. You made a good choice and I had a Vet 1 .25 Long ( sold it for a trade ), but you will be very happy with the build quality of your new Taipan. I just picked up a new Taipan .22 Long 700mm from Tony last month also.

Depending on your requirements, I have a Vortex 6x24X50 mm FFP I may want to sell. PM me if you want to bounce around some ideas on scopes, your budget, application, etc. Probably best to talk live via phone.

It looks like I don’t have enough posts on the forum to use the PM function yet. I’ll hit you up when I get there. I agree on a phone call.

Great setup for the vet or Huben. I have 3 .

What pellets are you shooting out of your 25 Vets? I had Tony set mine up for JSB 25.3s and it seems to have worked out well. I’m sure that I’ll want to experiment at some point.

I'm shooting the AEA 25.4 . I bought it used and played with it and settled on these. I read somewhere. Don't remember where that the JSB 33 grain mk2 pellets perform excellent in these also. Never tried it myself though. Might play with it this summer if it ever gets warm here

Maybe I can help with quickly finding scopes with a 10y min. parallax.
Over the years I have assembled 3 Scope Specs Tables with hundreds of scopes and their specs listed for easy comparison,
incl. price & warranty,
weight & length,
reticle type,
separated by FFP and SFP,
MIL or MOA,
FoV,
illum.,
etc. etc.

What magnification ranges are you looking for?
I have:
➊ 3-12x | 3-9x and SHORT scopes
➋ 4-16x | 3-18x | 3-15x
➌ 6-24x | 4-20x | 5-30x | 4-24x | 5-40x

Matthias 😊

I would guess you would have great luck with either the jts or aea 25 grain pellets as well. I have 3 Blackhound genesis 6-24 scopes. I really like them and now days you can get them for 200 bucks. I don’t think you can beat them at that price. The scope world is a bit of a double edged sword. Now you can get great value for your money but it can be a bit confusing as there are like 50 companies using the same Chinese manufacturer putting out nearly the same scope with slightly different tweaks.

Thanks! I’ll check out those ASA 25.4s. I did grab one tin of JSB 33 Gr MKIIs with my initial order. So far it’s the only other 25 caliber pellet that I have on hand. I’ll let you know how they shoot when I get around to trying them out.

Hi! I’m definitely more interested in scopes that fall into your 3rd category.

I found an Athlon Argos BTR Gen II 6-24 on Amazon for $259, so I decided to give it a try. I figured that if I don’t like it, I’ll use it on something else or sell it and move up the quality scale. I would be interested to hear how it fits I to your ranking system.

This will be my first experience with a FFP scope. I chose it this time because of the consistent hold overs at different power settings. Honestly though, I’m a little concerned about the reticle size at the upper and lower power settings, although in all fairness will probably spend more time using it in the middle ranges.
