What’s your favorite target?

Cans, to cut in half in as few shots as possible.
I just finished making these spring loaded targets,

These give a little shake when hit. Crow

Well i like to shoot flies too, and plenty of those in summer.
Also they are about the .177 size i shoot, and so 50 M and out, well it aint easy to hit them, so far only taken one at 118 M

Also very much like to shoot pests, but as i live in a very strange place i just can not do that, well outside of private property, i cant just advertise that i can / will shoot rats, you actually need a 3-4 day course in poison use to be able to do that ( see i told you this place is strange )
Also if i am not mistaken you can not shoot rats with a .177, so i would also need a hunting licence, meaning i will have to learn by heart the seasons for all animals most of which are illegal to shoot with a air rifle no matter caliber,, and of course prove i can safely handle and discharge a shotgun ( to get a air rifle for target shooting,,, i told you strange )

As for artificial targets, well our new " Needle" target, which is a 6 mm hole in a steel plate, behind which is chalk to give visual confirmation of a hit.

At 75 M distance and out,,,,,, that damn little hole is mighty hard to hit,,,,, so i like that.

Brian,

I hear you!!
And I suffer with you!! 😞

Germany is even worse than Denmark.
Power limit — without a very expensive, very difficult to obtain license — is 6FPE. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Someone could accuse me I moved from Germany to the more freedom-loving Peru because of those unnecessarily strikt & stupid laws.
(Alas, I had much more noble reasons.... 😃)

Before I retired I fabricated a piece of rectangular tube to slide down onto the horizontal 2x4’s at my gun clubs 50 yard range. The target holder set up at the club utilizes 2x4’s, one horizontal at about eye level and a second one below it. The 2x4’s are held up by vertical pieces of 1” rebar.
I have multiple targets on the square tube. Theres a 6” round 3/16” thick steel plate for pellets or rimfire, then on top a spring return diamond shape target made by Champion that I chopped up and bolted to the top of the square tube. Last week I decided I wanted to add a couple KYL targets to the side of the contraption, so I used a hole saw to cut a 1” diameter hole through both sides of the rectangular tube and weld two 7/8” diameter shaft collars to it to secure the KYL tube. Then I added four YKL targets that I like to use. The largest is 1” but I try to concentrate on the 3/4” size as that is about the size of a squirrels head which is good practice for my pesting at the maple syrup farm permission. Being it’s rated for rimfire I can use it on my 22LR rifle too.
The T handle on the back side is a threaded rod with a point on it to allow it to penetrate the 2x4 to hold it in place.

I think I’m going to make something like that. Thanks for the idea.
I’m not the welder I would like to be. I had these springs for 25 years,

I also used the spring for door stop springs, for smaller targets. And worked fine. I did melt a few. Crow

When welding different thickness materials, make sure you focus the brunt of your heat on the thicker part.
But if you are not shooting for a welding certificate, or welding something that put your life on the line like for instance a car frame, just make sure to get plenty of welding "goop" on the damn thing and you should be good.

Army men in Denmark would be like shooting flies, the ones we had / have here, well in my childhood a standing army man was just mine 10 -15 mm tall.
But plastic is more popular today VS the 70ties so maybe they have grown here.
A quick search gave me 15 to like 20 - 30 mm tall, so for sure big ones also sold here at some time.

I am thinking,,,,,,
The old school tin soldiers, which kids would some times cast with their father, and then paint them.
Get some molds for those, cast them in lead, and then shoot them, i suppose if they are big enough like a inch maybe two, they could trap flying lead.

Might also deform quickly of course, but hey just break out the mold and torch again and recast them.

Maybe make your own molds, for instance the lego men, in lead i am sure they could suck up a direct hit at least from the .177 pea caliber i deal with.

Darn it, now I can’t wait for my garage door spring to break. 😂😂 Oh what have I just done to myself.
