If ya would make a couple ground squirrel silhouettes on spring-loaded bases that can be staked to the ground, or bolted to a 2x4 base I bet they would sell. A few places sell similar but they are all large, Prairie Dog sized targets.

Here in the West we shoot ground squirrels that are about 5"-6" tall (Belding Ground Squirrel, AKA, 'Sage Rat'), and 7"-9" tall (California Ground Squirrel, AKA, 'Grey Digger').

Just a new product thought. Take it as you will. :)

I was just about to pop in here and ask you guys what else you might like to see in the 1/8".

I appreciate the feedback, I may consider this in the future once our new dueling tree is released.

I am always happy to hear product suggestions from shooters. 👍

1/8" mild steel plates will be destroyed by .25 cal pellets at anything above 600 fps at 25 meters distance. .
Hello Steve, it is not clear to me the intent of this post if it is an informative post about mild steel targets or questioning the
durability of ours.

To clear that up....

I have no doubt your statement is correct but to be clear our 1/8" targets being shown here are
not mild steel, they are AR400. There is a 3x difference in strength as seen in the table below.

They also ring much louder when hit due to the hardness difference.

Steel TypeTensile Strength (psi)Difference
A3658,000 – 80,000 psi
AR400 180,000 – 200,000 psi ~3x stronger

I hope this helps clear up any potential confusion.

I have never shot at AR400, so I cannot say how durable it is, but I can state that if mild un-heatreated steel is used, it must be at least 4mm thick to withstand .25 pellets at even low velocities to withstand distortion.

Mark,
Perhaps stating that your targets will not be distorted over time by soft lead pellets, would clear up any doubt that may exist. Unfortunately, this is an issue with many makers of steel targets.
