HW/Weihrauch New Weihrauch day, finally.

Someone has tinkered with it. The red grease, and screw cups aren't factory. Something sharp had to get to the stock to chip it out. Even with the box crushed, how's that happen if the box isn't penetrated somewhere?.
I'm sure you'll get it all sorted out. You're lucky the stock didn't break. You may need to true the barrel though.

Best of luck with it.

IDK but the pics I saw of it before it was shipped didn't have that chip in it. It's definitely been into.
We'll see later on.

I finally got around to tuning the older #2 98 that showed up late in shipping. Initial test shots showed burning of the red grease that was in it, so I assume the chrony #'s were inflated a bit.
Fast forward to today, after I stripped it down it was indeed packed with red grease, it had a blue breech seal, and a black cupped piston seal in it, not sure who makes those.

This receiver had a tight spot about 1-1/2 long just past where the trigger block stops, I honed this spot out because I buttoned the piston and it would hang up at this spot. I also made new guides for the factory spring, and a oring piston seal. Here's the new power plant...

I didn't go through the trigger yet, but I blasted it with brake clean, blowing it out, then rem oil and blew the excess out. I did cut down the adjustment screw, because I like the look better.
The stock was rubbing the left side of the breech block almost to shaving wood off. So I removed the brass screw cups, then made some steel post cups to center the stock back up, it's way better now but not perfect to my eye, however it works fine now.
Steel posts......

The cheek riser adjustment screws were buggered up as well, so I removed and repaired them best I could with a file, then reblued them.

Other things like removing the chisel detent and cleaning it out polished it and relubed it, as well as everything else with Krytox grease. Also deburred and polished what was needed. I also installed a new factory breech seal, cleaned the barrel and blue lock tite the removable muzzle weight on. Speaking of the barrel it has a large leade and not as tight going through compared to the new 98. So far the only pellets that fit snug going in are H&N baracuda 8, and crosman premier 7.9, also the Baracuda FT fit pretty good.
The others I tried were too loose and not making power like it should.

Today I shot some over the crony, it's slower than the new 98, but it may pick up some later, we'll see. The barrel being bigger I'm sure plays a part in this. I know the piston is sealing, but I haven't checked the new breech seal with tissue yet.

I haven't done any accuracy testing yet, waiting on rings to come. The guy I bought it from said it wouldn't group for him, we'll see.
Here's a side by side of the new vs. old 98

I will post some groups when I get it scoped and tested for pellet.✌🏻

Very impressive! I always enjoy your posts. I got a new HW98 a couple of months back that also has the breech block mounted off center. I need to fab some mounting cups/screws to center it up.
My new one was perfect, the older one had the wood compressed on one side allowing it to come closer to the breech block. The longer post on that side helped a lot. Thanks for the kind words. 👊🏻
