will gx cs4i fill a 9l scba tank

wondering if the cs4i will fill a 9l tank or should i look in to a bigger one?,
It will, but i recommend doing it in stages to let the pump cool down. I killed my cs pump on exactly that size bottle, once a week filling and no breaks did no favors to my pump 3k to 4.5k. A dead fill would be even harder imho.

Yes. I filled my 6.8 from empty. Broke it down into 3 "sessions" . Took as i recall 2 hrs 15 mins.
Broke it down to around 45 min. each "fill".
Of course topping off from 3200 to 4500 psi takes 25 minutes

great thx will mainly just be topping off

Yes . Have filled 6.8 and 9 liters several times each . This is non stop.
9 liter is about 5 hours from 0 to 4800 psi
Mine did for awhile and developed a motor bearing knock at the output shaft, then one of the larger molded piston rings shattered, i couldn't find one at the time and the pump wouldn't go past 2k and got retired for a much bigger pump. I use my cs as a donor for parts now for Frankenstein tools

Was this actually a CS4I or one of the smaller air cooled compressor you have?

The cs4I, the compressor in this thread, should have no problem. An air-cooled model, definitely not designed to be filling large tanks.

Mine was the air cooled version prior to the water cooled being out. Don't let my comment lead you do believe I'm ripping on the Cs pumps, I just spread an abundance of caution on filling scbas with smaller compressors in general. I burned up 3 yong heng (not recirculating heated water) and the cs before I bought a Coltri clone. In fairness I was using a ton of air and filling often during the modification and tuning phase with all the guns.

I'd just like my lessons to save somebody else some time/trouble/money, to help further the hobby.

I believe GX recommends the CS4 up to 6.8 liter and the CS5 above that. There is a one and a two cylinder CS5. It would be nice to know whether it is ever money well spent to go "above" one of the GX pumps. The temperature test Target Forge did on the CS2 was impressive - never got to 90 F in 25 minutes run time. My YH gets hotter than that in 5 minutes running. I do not consider the YH a high end compressor, I just wonder how much better something like a Coltri they really are. The dual cylinder CS5 weighs about 100 lbs. Not real portable but probably a very nice compressor.

Aplogies for the segway, but I'm curious about why people prefer to fill a tank/bottle rather than to use a portable compressor at the range/shooting location.

I'm not arging against the decision to do that, just curious about the tank versus compressor solution.
I don't have to wait, or listen, or worry about electricity(I have one just in case) I can condition my air better on an scba fill than a fun fill because I'm not bleeding off 300cc of air that I waited to fill every time. I will tether to a giant bottle with my buddy and shoot all day, reloading is annoying, waiting for air is worse. Imho 😁. Search my posts about air bottles, the amount of air I store will blow your mind. No waiting ever.

GX-CS4 Amazon ad stated compressor is recommended for filling bottles smaller than 6.8L. GX-CS5 is recommended for 6.8L, and above. WM

Its a huge time savings at the range for me with limited range time. I want to shoot a bunch not listen to an annoying compressor fill. Top off from tanks like 3-4 seconds. If you can shoot at home and every(or any) day its not something i would mess with.
