BRK Ghost with slug barrel.

I just bought a new BRK Ghost 22 cal HP from AOA and I had them put one of the new 1-17 twist slug barrels on it.
I have a BRK Ghost 22 cal HP that has the 23in. barrel on it that shoots the 23.39 JSB redesigned shallows extremely well.
I've always wanted a dedicated slug shooter and a dedicated pellet shooter as well and it looks like I might get what I have been looking for.
Any suggestions on which slugs I should try?....I already have some Hybrids and Howlers on hand. What I mostly shoot is Starlings, Crows, Pigeons,
Groundhogs and Gray squirrels.
Thanks!

Congratulations! What a very nice duo! I would order slugs of different diameters and weights. I would also call AoA and see what diameter slugs they recommend for that barrel but each barrel is slightly different. How cool!
Thanks.....Yeah, I just ordered it this evening and am super pumped about this setup and can't wait to get it and start shooting it. I kept hearing for a while about BRK coming out with a slug barrel for the Ghost and they finally did. If it shoots anything like my current Ghost, I will be very happy. This barrel is 28 inches long compared to the original 23 inch also.

That's a perfect length barrel for easy added power! I am sure that barrel will sling slugs with great accuracy! I hope you post some pics of shots and thoughts when you get it 👍. Again, congrats!

ok can you please help me understand 🤔 so you mentioned that each barrel is different..ok but how does this happen..
same thing with the GK1.. even Kelly says that every gun is different.. different diameter of barrel and different magazine.. I don't understand this with modern CNC machined stuff..
I know this sounds bad and honestly I don't think it but seems like especially with the Huben GK1 if what is said is how it is, is it made one by one by different people and no specs or horrible quality control.. again I don't believe that statement but I can't understand how some will shoot all ammo and others jamming and hard to find any ammo that works..
I suppose this is my biggest concern/question especially for the Huben GK1
I suppose I should pm you but I wasn't sure how to reference this post.
thank you
Mark

Most barrels are made to very tight tolerances as you said. But when forming the lands/rifling thru different methods very minor discrepancies may or may not effect the bore's diameter and thus with slugs, one might need say .217 while another (same barrel make) may need .2175...that is not much of a difference in tolerances for a barrel but for shooting slugs accurately, diameter is very important as slugs are spin stabilized. Barrels lands are not CNC machined but are made thru different processes like button rifling. FX liners lands are made from the outside by compression! So, each barrel MAY be different 😂.

so how are the Huben GK1 made, why do some shoot crossman and others they have a hard time finding a pellet?
I understand that you are saying about rifling.. but seems like from everything I have read and heard that the GK1 has major differences.. like a lot more than 217vs 2175..
also I don't know how the magazine is made, maybe it's cast? but I'd think it would be CNC machined..I suppose that's what I was referring to mostly before when I said CNC machine.
you are one of the members I remember the name and that you know what you talk about..I appreciate it..
I've been wanting a GK1 in 22 caliber and it's very hard for me to get that much money together.. I just really don't want to get it and then have trouble with it or being pellet picky and jamming at the price point..
if I manage to buy one it will be from Kelly at Krazy cool airguns

Thanx for the compliment! I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one from Kelly! He will tune it to your specs and find the ammo your gun likes! Most folks have to shoot/tune (especially with slugs) and find the ammo ones gun/barrel likes to achieve the best accuracy, it's not just relegated to Huben GK's! You're....NOT ALONE! 🤗👍

see my plinking ammo and what I shoot mostly crossman premier 14 grain pellets.. cheap and I buy it by the case.. I just get worried about hearing that I might have to seat pellets with a pen.. I just want to put in and shoot..I can understand maybe some different ones are more accurate and I'd do that but I do like being able to purchase locally instead of being locked in to having to only order.. it's just another reason 25 caliber doesn't even interest me..
hopefully you can get my worries about buying one gone 😂
I just don't want to regret such a hard amount of money for the purchase..

A big purchase is always a scary thing in a way for most folks and since you are purchasing it from a well known caring vendor, that should make the purchase much easier. If for some reason the gun is a "lemon" but highly unlikely, I am sure Kelly would remedy that with no worries involved.

That's why I went with Hammerforged for my new barrel line. You are 100% correct by my experience with barrels. Even Hammerforged there are tiny differences. The oil viscosity can be enough to change the bore/land measurements during button rifling or Hammerforged. In cut rifling the flex of the cutting tool or wear of the tool could change those barrel to barrel. Same goes for pellets/slugs in that aspect. The differences in heat or cooling if poured in a mold. Wear of a mold if swaged or the slightest differences in lead pureness can change the pellet or slug diameter. That's why competition shooters will often buy bulk of a specific die when accurate. Slugs and pellets both can actually swell to a larger dia over time. Wild ride especially trying to sqeak out that last bit of accuracy.

Troy, lots of variables involved and the barrels are still exceptionally close in tolerances!

Hi.
I also have .22 ghost hp. how much did you buy it? When I asked AOA, $600!
you still can shoot pallets okay with that slug barrel? What FPS did you shoot the 23.39gr?
thanks!

Since I am buying the gun new and wanted to exchange the standard barrel for the new slug barrel, we did a little horse trading, and they let me have the barrel for $100.00. The guys at AOA I have found to be really good to deal with and are very accommodating.
For my current Ghost, I have found 930 fps to be the most accurate. I tried several different velocity's and 930fps always grouped the best. I also tried several different pellets, including the JSB 25.39gr redesigned deep, but the JSB 25.39gr redesigned shallow always shot the best.
Something else also, I have had several different PCP air rifles over the years and my Ghost 22cal. has been the most accurate, reliable and consistent. That's why I bought another one when I found out BRK now offers a slug barrel for in.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Got it. I am also using 25.39gr shallow.
So you are using that pallets with your slug barrel with 930 FPS which means that new slug barrel can “””shoot pallets & slugs both.”””

thanks for sharing and reply!

BTW do you have a cold start issue with your ghost? Like.. sit gun for 1-2 days after that first shot 50 FPS lower than where you set it to.
exp) you set it 930 FPS, next day or two first shot you get around 880 FPS.

I have not got the new Ghost with the slug barrel yet. I should get it maybe next week.
Yes, if I have not shot my current Ghost in a day or so, my velocity will be lower on the first and second shot usually.
I have the FX pocket chronograph V2, (which is excellent, btw), and I have it attached to the front side picatinny rail, and I always have it there so I can check my velocity after every shot. On my Ghost the front reg. is at 145 bar and my power wheel is set at #3 and with these settings I am getting an average of 930fps.
If my gun has been sitting for a while (a day or so) I will raise my power wheel to approximately #7-#8 and that will usually get me very close to 930fps. on the first shot. After that, I will monitor my velocity and adjust my power wheel accordingly. This is just a SWAG, but I am usually fairly close to 930fps.
I hope this answers your question and please let me know if it did not or if confused you even more....LOL

Yes I also do gave FX pocket chronograph V2 To check a FPS. I see how you control first shot by using PW higher.
so you are saying that you bought a another ghost with slug barrel with it.($100 extra)
just curious, why not just buy slug barrel & swap? That’s what I’m going to do but slug barrel cost way too much($600+)
When you get a ghost with slug barrel, could you please update a result? I really want to know that slug barrel is worth it to buy with that price.

Thank you!
