HW97 fitted with Paul Short titanium piston - superb!

Tonight I fitted the titanium piston. I never thought that you could make much difference to the stage 3 gun because it shoots really nice but..... I took out the stage 3 kit and put in the titanium kit. The titanium piston is LIGHT - I didn't believe how much difference it could make but I weighed the standard piston, the stage 3 piston and the titanium piston ..... you will see in the video. It needs more preload to power that light piston. The stage 3 kit needed almost none - the titanium about 20mm. The shot cycle - my god, the difference is marked. Almost no sight picture movement. A fast shot cycle but really nice. Very, very nice. Impressive stuff. As ever with Pauls work, it is beautifully made - the new spring provided has the ends dressed and polished, the guides are perfect and the machining on the piston etc is a pleasure to see - almost a shame to hide it away in the gun. There will be many pellets going through this gun this weekend :D

There are a variety of ways to achieve the same effect. The holes route has been done before too. Its all about smoothing that shot cycle and getting everything running as well as it can. The delrin bearings keep everything concentric and the titanium piston gives the lightness. But yes - you could just drill a load of holes in your standard piston.

The 97 must make a great test bed for modifications. I have a 25mm HW77 I bought over 20 years ago and it still shoots very smooth and is very accurate.
I am a fan oh higher power PCPs and lower power springers. I imagine many people don't know what a joy a well behaved springer is to shoot. My easy to cock, smooth shooting beech Freimark HW35 is quite a contrast to my pretty but bumpy 12+ fpe HW35E.
I very much appreciate your post and video.

First of all, thank you for accepting me on the forum. This is my first post.

My name is Nery, I have an original HW-77 with 16J (15.5) caliber 4.5 (.177). I would like to buy the Titaniun Paul Short Kit. I found this forum. I really don't even know if the kit is still sold, or if anyone has the contact information and can share it.

I have friends here who have given great reviews about the kit. It is very difficult to make a good grouping with the original factory HW77, even with support. Maybe the kit will help in this regard.

I would like to thank everyone who was able to help in advance.

if it doesn't group well now it wont group well with a piston change. A gun that doesnt group has bigger problems. Any 177 HW77 should group reasonably well if you've tried different pellets and it doesn't have a bad barrel

Hi, thanks. The gun is quite new. (9 months, last them 500 shots).. this targets I shot yeterday,, I think the problem is that the gun kick.... with recoil... em the group is 10mm diameter in 25m. I read, that gun do better group... I read... but I dont know for sure. 25m with front and rear rest. HW77 (original) and riflescope Vector optics Sentinel-X

those groups aren't terrible for a new gun at 25m. do you have experience shooting other springers?
Hi, thanks... I gun I think it´s ok... I cut all those cards... 25m... Maybe my problem is "Me", kkkk I´ve try to change the position of my hand, and fingers... and did good.. but I´ll make more tests...

My 35e in .22 is like shooting a cannon compared to the .20 97K. The 97 has a Vortek kit. It's is smooth but still bounces off target. Getting it closer to recoiless would be awesome, as long as I could still shoot 75 yards with it.
