.177 Slug Project/Progress With Updated Photos By Request.

Nation,

Many of you have been asking what certain designs of my slugs look like, and if I can supply pictures of such. Here are the slug designs as listed on my website.

Jdjr, Almeidaken,

There is usually no rhyme or reason for for any slugs success or failure in a lower powered gun. Actually, this is why I started this project over a year ago.....to get something to work in a 12 ft.lb Field Target setup. This translates to a 8.44 grain JSB at around 800 FPS.

So far, what I have found, is that they do not like lighter weights (under 14 grains) and most nose designs and weights do not shoot the hollow base well at all. I've found through input of many testers, that 15 grain flat base works well in medium power (14-16 ft.lb) Springers. This is something that I did not see coming.

I only have one diameter of pellet, and that is .1775. That is because when I had the dies made, I sent the diemaker samples of the fired pellets from my RAW TM1000, and Steyr LG 110FT, and this is the diameter that I have adopted as my standard for all the slugs that I make. When I had other (larger) diameters made in the past of a semi wadcutter design, they were almost on the realm of unshootable. Couldn't get a 8 inch group at 30 yards. With these slugs, and their matched diameters to my barrels, the results are surprisingly good, but still need a little bit more tinkering with weight, design, base shape, all of which changes the center of gravity of the pellet. On my website, I show a video of a group shot in a 15 mph crosswind, and I'm rather pleased with the results from these slugs in that wind, and how they grouped at 55 yards

Keep watching, I'm waiting for warmer weather to really continue testing out these slugs.
