    Having a nice day off, spending time on the shop. Weather is still nice, highs in the 80-90's and nights in the low 60's. It turns out that the laser and the lathe are complimentary in my shop. I turn material while the laser is busy. Keeps my cookie snatchin' hands off the parameters while the laser machine is busy laser machinin'.

    Wow, sometimes you just gotta sit back and tell yourself things will get better.

    Thursday night my two work buddies and I went to the local lake to chase catfish and drift around on the pontoon. This was going to be the last trip of the summer (my first trip, for reasons...) It rained buckets on us, it threw lightning at the hills, the wind blew us around despite 2 anchors rigged. We decided to cut our losses and go home about midnight. At the dock, I dropped my phone into the lake.

    Ploop! :mad::poop:☠️. Nothing to be done but go home and get the 250# magnet and try to get lucky. 2 more hours of rain, wind and cussing made no difference. Phone has gone to the Great Motorola in the sky.

    The insured cost to replace it was a $100.00 deductible. The Vendor overnight shipped and arrived today. It's pulling down my contacts and text messages from the cloud. Still not happy about it, but it is getting better.

    I don't really like fish all that much - I will stick to squirrel and rabbits. And that is why i have the ATV and Jeepy instead of a 🤬🤬 boat.

    A little perspective was called for, and I realized that I was going to survive that trial. Really, it helped me get a handle on some other issues that were causing more grief than was warranted. God does not grant patience; he sends tests that allow us to grow our own patience.

    Got the hard part done. Having a smart and strong buddy is highly recommend.

    Time now to clean inspect and adjust to level. Don't know if it will ever pay for itself, but I am excited to learn how to turn. Airguns are still cheaper than golf 😆

    I remember helping my friend putting a new complete gearbox into a land rover parked at the curb.
    That be shoehorning it in thru the back door, and then drop it down ( floor removed ) and finagle it into place )
    Now we was 2 doing the lifting but if you know a land rover you know there is not much room back there, and the complete gearbox as i recall was 208 kilos / 458 pounds.
    Back then in the 90ties i was only 65 Kilos / 143 pounds myself, and 6 foot 3 tall, with no shirt on you could count my ribs from 25 yards with ease.
    But i was at least lifting the 150 of those kilos, at least i could fairly easy dead lift that weight in the late 80ties.

    I could use a lathe tomorrow when i cut 100 mm of one of my FX barrels.

    A lathe are not rocket science,,,, you got this buddy.
    BUT ! watch your fingers.

    John, are you and your squad going to be able to get to the N50 this year at Raton? I had to pull out last year due to family emergency. This year it'll take Godzilla to keep me away. Hope to have you guys there. New Mexico needs some shooters better than me, to represent 👍

    Not this year…I haven’t put in the time on that very perishable skill…Hopefully have more time to devote to my favorite activities over the coming year. Not sure if any of our other shooters are going.… health issues in one form or another seems to plague us as we get older. Thanks for your vote of confidence. John

    Another good year at Raton for the Kid's shooting competition. Littlest one did not make it to the award stage this year, but she did have a breakthrough on the practice range and managed to level-up on three critical skills. She was shooting a new shotgun, a new (to her) Ruger. She set a personal best in Rifle and Muzzleloader and was just one hit each out of the awards. She is already chomping at the bit to go again next year. I was in my favorite place with my favorite group of people, and I reaped the benefits of both being away from work and being able to witness the 37 shooters on our team manifest the skills and knowledge that we coaches have been working toward.

    Life is good.

    Very nice, well done! It reminds me of a "logo" I burn into slingshot handles when I make one.

    Thanks OS. The usual from my shop is laser pyrography, but this is mixed media. Multi layered cardboard cut and glued on to stained wood and repurposed fence wire. The third dimension added by the depth of the cardboard was one of my goals.

    Sadly that do not seem like my family, where people drift apart ASAP, and mind you for no reason, its not like we get in each others hair all the time.
    BUT ! i still like the design / concept, that is the way it should be,,,, family first.

    New product from the Lazer lab. Leather Patch on stainless steel tumbler. I like this one a lot. The leather takes a little less power, so this prototype is a bit over exposed.

    My niece have gone totally horse bonkers,,,,, though this is not uncommon for females in my family,
    They got 2 horses while in their old house a grown male and a female foal, then they moved to a new house in late spring, and now a #3 horse are ordered, and one that is knocked up on delivery.

    I am thinking, even if i have always said " no way will you get me on the back of a horse " then i am thinking now, maybe niece can teach old uncle to ride, before he is wayyyyy too old to even get up on a horse without needing a crane like device.

    More fun with the laser engraver. Got a new 24v 10watt output head for the machine. I can engrave some metals without having to apply a pre treatment. Easier, faster, cleaner and no off gassing. Very happy!!

    I have been eyeballing new and " cheap " laser cutter / engravers, very cool kit.

    O and THX for reminding me with the pic of a glass / cup, i have said i would toast the Danish 2 X winner of that French pedal pusher fest with a beer, so i got me one of those yesterday.
    I think it will be the first time in 25 years i drink beer, CUZ i never really liked the stuff.

    But i aint no politicians, so i made a promise and even if it was just to myself, i fully intend to keep it

    I think the software package is really more important than the hardware, for laser work. I highly recommend the Lightburn program. It is not expensive and the ease of use and the flexibility is top-notch. Even though it has a yearly subscription, I do happily pay for the privilege. Message me if you want to talk more about lasers.

    It was a good week at the Whittington Center, despite the hail, yearly rain total in 4 days and a small tornado.

    My two girls participate in YHEC, a shooting and hunting challenge sponsored by the NRA. Little one shot 2 personal records and scored well overall.

    The older one finished her YHEC career on the way to college. She went out with a bang. She placed in the top 5 in 3 out of 8 contests, 5th high individual score total and her squad took overall point championship. With that highpoint win, the squad has a paid entry into the National YHEC.

    I am very proud of both gurlz.

    Graduation party tomorrow. Got the food started. 17# brisket, seasoned with PSG and will use the tinfoil boat method once internal temps hit 185.

    1c. pepper
    1/2c. coarse ground salt
    1/4c. Garlic

    4h at 275
    4-6h at 325 (up to 185f internal)
    Foil wrap with top exposed, finish low heat until fat renders. Trimmings cooked down for BBQ sauce base. (Everything I know I stole from the 'net 😉)

    Sear on high, flip sear on high. Finish on indirect heat. Life is good!

    We or should i say my friend are avid BBQ users, i have seen my friend hovering over the BBQ on both X mas evening and new years evening, and during it snowing and raining.
    It have however been a long time since we transitioned to a propane grill, CUZ the coal way while we still use it on trips with fishing rods or RC cars, then it is a pain in the butt.

    Mind you in the depth of winter in sub zero temperatures on fishing trip with the surf casting rods, well so nice with a little warm food, and after that put glass bottle Coco on the grill to enjoy that warm too.
    A Cocio cold or hot, just about one of the best things in Denmark.
