I would eat a pigeon if I shot it on a farm or in a field. Similar to the discussion about rats- I would never eat a city bird. IMO out in a clean environment pigeon-dove are basically the same.

I almost always use vital shots for rats/mice. Head shots are a rare luxury for when they sit perfectly still.
