    Mythbusting Precision BR

Yeah I have my Thomas in a field target stock at the moment. I bolted a 3” block on the foreend and when I shoot it on my one piece rest it doesn’t recoil consistently. Sometimes it moves back from battery and sometimes it stays put. If for some reason I’m still seeing this in the BR stock I...

    JTS Pellets in .177 - a video

Some early AM indoor testing: the JTS 10.4 shot quite well through my Thomas at 19.5fpe. It kept up with my preferred pellet the FX 13.4s. There was one ‘flyer’ in each group of ten. Might not look like much of a flyer but I could clearly see it opened the group much more than the other...

hBN (Hexagonal Boron Nitride) vs fouling

I would say yes, it's doing a job keeping the lead from adhering. Are you washing your pellets? I find that most pellets aren't very clean and if lead laying down in your bore concerns you, they should be very clean to begin with. The flecks of lead that do get introduced into the bore are an...

AEA Pellets and Speed versus JSB, etc.

My .30 RAW isn't tuned to those speeds, but i can say it shot 45gr JSBs very well at 73FPE. The AEA 45's didn't come to life until I pushed the power up to 80-95FPE (I didn't push further because I was just playing with hammer spring adjustment). Anyway they seem to like to go fast. The outer...

Are there any differences on benchrest that you'd do between air rifle and shooting 308?

I'd watch the wind more closely. And I wouldn't shoot a 308 in centerfire benchrest competition. 30BR, 6PPC, or a BR variant will win everything until you go beyond 400y. So we're clear, are you talking benchrest competition, or shooting a standard rifle rested on a bench?

Which lube do you use for your pellets.

More recently I’ve been cleaning my pellets in 90% alcohol to remove whatever is on them. My bore already seems to foul a lot less. Not sure I want to add any lube that isn’t dry and get back into the mess

Value of testing at shorter range

I'm trying a variety of pellets and tweaking tunes - is there any ground to be gained in the winter season on the indoor range is 20y long and I'm ultimately going to be shooting at 25 and 50 outdoors? I'm thinking I can at least eliminate some definite 'no' combinations and later I can test...

How many AGN members make their own slugs

I voted yes because I swage my own pellets. I don’t shoot slugs but if I did I expect I would swage my own too.

    most accurate pellet design ?

At low power and out to 15y, wadcutter. At higher power and out to longer ranges, domed. Gotta try more than a couple brands/types. They might look alike but your barrel will surely tell you there is a difference on target.

    Theoben Theoben eliminator

All of my break barrels have had some kind of Belleville or curved washer. You want it snug but it still needs to pivot. You could try adding a shim washer to firm up the fit but that risks breaking things and you also have to deal with the nightmare of getting them lined up to reassemble the...

Teslong NTG100 view better than expected .

I forgot RAWs have a port on the medium and large calibers. I'd pull the barrel and clean it where I know I can prevent crap from getting into and through the port. I'm perfectly comfortable pulling the barrel. If you're reluctant then I'd skip the abrasives and stick with patches and or...

    Sorting pellets by viewing

Runout in the pocket of the skirt definitely opens groups. That experiment was pretty conclusive but the method was too laborious (and too many went into the junk pile) for regular use. Having a fast and accurate tool like this would be very helpful. I'm curious how to tell which pellets...

Teslong NTG100 view better than expected .

Lead just smears onto metal and needs to be scrubbed off. Ideally it takes very little force to remove it, which makes de-leading an airgun barrel usually a lot less difficult than a firearm barrel where it's been embedded with 10x or 20x the pressure and heat. This isn't for everyone but on...

    Rest bag filler Matl?

If light and durable is your goal, use cut up foam pellet padding like you get from Pyramyd. Does require large fill openings of course. If heavy and stable is your goal, a bag of black blasting grit is cheap clean and effective. Play sand works well too and saves weight over the grit. I’ve...
